Can you explain what on-page optimization is?

On page optimization is the process to make the site SEO friendly by making some changes. Like:

Content optimization
Meta Tags
Keyword Research
Image Optimization
Internal Linking
heading Tags

Uhmm dunno much about tips but this site is good for their services, I have tried it

There are really two types of local SEO.

One is just normal SEO which allows you to focus on specific keywords, which a group of these would be local. This has become less effective these days when you're in niches that are real businesses due to the increasingly large footprint of the Google Places rollout.

The next type of local SEO is Google Places SEO. You will have to either have a partnership with a business owner of a physical business or be one yourself to start in this corner of SEO. This entails learning different theories, tricks and strategies that help you move up into the Google pack of places listings. The simplest method to game these results are local citations and reviews.

For on page optimization you want your primary keyword in the title, description, and on page content. Try to keep your main keyword saturation to 2-5% and then add some Lsi keywords, which are closely related to your main but not the same. Then when you upload images make sure the keywords are in the name of the saved image file(alt tags).

Link to your home page from other places on your site where the main keyword is. Not too much, and link to an authority site in your niche from the homepage somewhere that will not distract your visitors.

Then you submit your site to all the major search engines, if it is not indexed already. Find local business directories online and submit your site to the proper area and have your text optimized just like the title and description of your home page. Write or have someone write articles and link to your site with anchor text keywords. Try to find blogs in your area with local interest and become an active participant in conversations and slip your link in wherever you can without being to spammy.

Get in some forums with your niche or area in mind then put an anchor text link in your signatures. Post something every once in a while.

The big part of getting top spots is knowing what your competition is doing and how consistent they are with linkbuilding. Try to study their sites with seo spyglass, rankwatcher, alexa, spyfu, or any other tool you can find to gather intelligence. Get a backlinks from everywhere they have one and more.

Sometimes you will find that thy purchase high pr in context backlinks that are pretty hard to compete with, just browse around Bhw and you will find some great services for that.

The bottom line is if you want to keep rankings when you get up there, try to keep direct links to your site as whitehat as possible then blast the hell out of those links.

Hope that helps a little, just do something instead of wondering what to do the whole time and getting information overload. The big part about linkbuilding and seo in general is persistence.

Thanks for the input.
Can you please elaborate this a little?

1. Why is the 'normal SEO' type (keyword-based) less effective nowadays? I thought its simply "keyword + location"? How does Google Places affect this? I do notice that sometimes when I search "keyword+ location", instead of showing organic results, google places came up top. Is that what you mean?

2. What are some strategies in terms of improving your google places ranking? I read a few topics that 'reviews' from review sites cause some impact on this? Is that true?

Please advise. Thanks.

anoter noob question.
how could I know that my website is indexed by a search engine?

For me some important SEO factors are : Content, Meta tag, Title/Tag, Keyword Phrase.
Some very good SEO tricks which are much profitable: Blog commenting, Article submission, social bookmarking, Keyword density.

Get your site listed in local directories like yelp.com, qype.com. Check your local score at getlisted.org, it is a very handy site.

To improve your google places rank, get as many reviews as possible and complete your google places profile as well. Add images, videos etc.

For onsite, add your address on every page of your site and make sure it is same address/phone number that you have in your google places account.

Add hcards/microdata/microformats/RDF on your website. Learn more about it here:

Hosting on local server and domain setting in GWT also help in local SEO.

You can always use a local tld to dominate the local search - seems like when a local ip is used in a search, a local tld will be given priority to rank for that local search result. Another method is using their google business page as a parasite - a darn good parasite that is. You'll need to optimize the keywords before it can rank well for your targeted terms.
