Hey guys

Im am trying to rank a local site and wanted to know how to go about it.

I was thinking to do a Press Release BST to start off and get some legit links (if they even provide that). Then i am planning to do some citations.

What other aspects should i looking to ranking for local keywords?

I appreciate all the help.

Couple it with some web2.0 posts and PBN. And you are good to go.

Press release might be a little of an overkill depending on the competition.

As said, small PBN + some web2.0 should do the trick.

Local listings can greatly improve your rankings,focus more on onpage seo first before back linking.

I like to start a local site with a PR because they also give citations.

Speaking of citations, start with authority and big data aggregators first. Moz local is a decent service but there are less costly alternatives around.

Hey first of all list your websites in these:
Create free profiles on:
•Google Maps www.google.com/local/add
•Yahoo Local http://listings.local.yahoo.com/
•Bing Local https://ssl.bing.com/listings/ListingCenter.aspx

These sites will help to get listed of your site on top plus other stuffs like web 2.0 and press release

Man I hate to ask noobie questions... but can anyone tell me about how a Press Release works and why it would be "Overkill" for a local site?

Also.. OP, are you trying to rank in the Google map pack and organically? Just the map pack? Just organically?

From my limited understanding is it all goes back to citations. Specifically, tow types of citations; structured and unstructured. The press release would fall under the unstructured I believe. The reason for this, is that it is a more "casual" mention of your enterprise and location but without the schema data. I think maybe they should be spaced out or drip fed in to look more natural if you are doing a bunch of work all of a sudden. In theory that should give you less headaches from the next Google animal attack heading our way soon enough.
