local keyword research help

I have started my local internet marketing business, and I actually have some clients and I'm starting to build a good reputation, by getting my clients on the first page, generating some traffic and getting them more customers. but I have a new client and his business' keywords do not show any traffic locally, using Market Samurai or the Google keyword tool.


Now I'm not sure what keywords to go after, should I just use the top keyword(without local modifier) and stick his local city on the front and hope for the best or is there a better way?

You can't really help this guy with SEO but you can do social marketing for him with facebook, blogs, PPC advertising. Explain to him that there isn't much demand for his business right now with google but you can help him create the demand by interacting with customers on his behalf online and doing some internet advertising for his business.

Expand your skills a bit so you can help and provide value to any business and client with the internet.

But if you really want to do keyword work for him just rank for his business name because people will search directly for that and not a keyword.

You should remember that keyword researching is very important for gathering traffic. You have very competitive keywords then it is very difficult to go ahead regarding to you competitors. So you have to find out a optimum keyword. So during researching keywords, be conscious enough.

I would use google search tab suggestions. You won't get the number of searches, but you will get the order of popularity of the keywords that people are searching for.
