Hi everyone,
I am managing the websites of a company; the company is composed as follows:

General Company then depending on the niche there are Sub-company1, Sub-company2, Sub-company 3 and Sub-company 4.

Only the name, the website and the description change between them because each Sub-company deals with different products; (address, city, telephone number and email are the same for all.

Can I do Local Citation for each Sub-company to improve the authority of each site? or is it counterproductive?

Yes, you can create local citations for each sub-company, as this is a legitimate practice for businesses with multiple divisions or departments operating under a parent company, especially if they serve different niches or product lines. However, to maintain consistency and avoid potential issues with Google's guidelines, ensure that each citation clearly indicates the relationship between the sub-companies and the parent company, and be careful to use consistent NAP information while differentiating the specific business names and descriptions for each division.

It’s tricky because using the same NAP (Name, Address, Phone number) for multiple entities can confuse search engines and potentially hurt local SEO. Instead, focus on making each Sub-company’s citations as unique as possible by emphasizing their individual niche in the descriptions, categories, and any additional details.
If you decide to go for citations, ensure the websites clearly define the distinctions between the Sub-companies to minimize overlap. Also, monitor rankings closely to ensure no negative impact. It’s worth testing on a smaller scale before rolling it out across all Sub-companies.
