Not at all. I do not do the party scene so it does not bother me. I would rather be alone with my thoughts and do whatever I want to do and when I want to do it.

I think off the grid would include any kind of electricity / internet. I get the image of doing everything by hand, enjoying the outdoors, and not watching solar powered TV etc. etc.

I guess it depends on what your perception of "off the grid" is.

Amen to that and thanks for saying it. Its easy to forget when you do drugs, and I did plenty, that they're a tool for entering states of consciousness. Once you learn what they teach you don't need the crutch anymore unless you're funny for crutches! :cool::cool:

Like someone else said I'm jealous! :D Eventually I'll learn to live off the grid and slip in and out as I choose. Nice to be able to connect to realness like that. Especially if you have to.
 
Living without all the stress most of us have must be really nice - I just can't bring myself to just give everything up though :p

I would love to do that too but I love my TV, internet, and cars way too much. So going without gas or steady electric would drive me nuts.
 
Not giving up anything I do not want to do without. I am still close enough to town if I need to get something or do something. I did get rid of the TV though. Too many things I enjoy doing around here and things that have to be done too.You do not have to live like me to live off the grid, you can live in town and make your own electricity. It is not limited to people that live in the sticks or mountains that have to. Your home owners association that tells you what you can do with your own property may have something to say about it though. You can have everything that you have right now and just not have an electric bill.

I own a car, I have internet, I choose to get rid of the crappy TV and every time I turn on the computer it comes on so I have electricity. Propane is available if you have to heat or cook with gas. Not as bad as you may think... LOL You can still have your TV if you want it.
 
awesome thread, i am setting up my off the grid lifestyle to come, similar to the one you mentioned. i planned to get a RV though, but stay low key. Not for doomsday necessarily, but just to live simple and free as possible

BINGO!

Here I have a little advantage that most do not. I do not need a building permit to build a house/cabin/anything on my land because the county has no authority and you only need a state permit if you hire a contractor.
 
I honestly dont think its smart to refuse the benefits technology and this world has to offer us right now, its good to be prepared for the worst but why make life hard for yourself? Even if things change down the road atleast you wont regret never being able to enjoy the good old things that are no longer available :D

Who is refusing technology? I am on here am I not? Tell us what benefits we would be refusing? I can have anything I want up here if I want it.

1. Electricity - got it (make it myself)
2. Water - got it
3. Heat - got it
4. Food - Got it or growing it
5. TV - Hate it don't want it
6. Cell Phone - Got it
7. Car - Got it
8. Medical - Just down the road 40 miles or so
9. Internet - Got it

Any technology I am missing that I NEED?

Living off the grid is not going Amish. Hell even they have refrigerators only they run on propane.

Not trying to be hard on you but it is not what it seems. Hell people in town sell excess electricity back to the power companies and they are essentially off the grid but if something happens to their systems the local power company will pick up the slack.
 
This thread is great. I have been working on reading the Foxfire books for a while now, and hope to have a place out in the country one day as well as one close to civilization.

I think there should be a mastermind of off-the-grid online marketers. Would be a whole lot of interesting stuff to discuss!
 
Obviously I misunderstood what you were suggesting. I am still little confused about the benefits this offers you but if it helps you with feeling of freedom, I am sure its worth it!

Many will not see benefits and probably think that I am crazy. I like the solitary life. Like I said before there are neighbors around me but I can not even see their lights at night. I love that. Woke up the other morning with deer right outside. I will probably be able to live comfortably on $600 a month maybe a little more. I do not need material things to be happy. Just put away the cash for more land. Great benefits to that.

Sounds great. I like the idea of simple life myself too, bit different than yours though, but still. Good luck with your endeavours
