I found my little niche in internet marketing but it took years to get there. Credit cards, and hiding from my land lord many times. I seen videos on youtube about people living in vans or cars (Van life?). If I could go back in time I would have done it. Around here you can even rent an office space for $200 a month, then you could live in a van, shower at a gym. Just wondering if anyone here is doing it or have tried to do it.

Why a van? I would not be confortable in that situation. RV for sure, but not a van... :)

I have, my wife and I did that on and off for over 18 months. We called it hotel Tacoma. We had a Toyota Tacoma with a camper shell and lived out of that. We had an office in Flagstaff and boon-docked in the national forests. it was fucking amazing. Didn't get much work done as we were always out doing something but it was a lot of fun. It has drawbacks but if your income comes from digital means then it's very easy and really gave us a lot of perspective on things.

We have had enough of Vegas and are thinking of doing it again now that we sold off a lot of our physical ecomm stores and products. If you are able to do it I would highly recommend it for a few months to see how you like it because it really does change the way you think about things. We have been floating the idea the last couple of weeks about buying a sprinter van and kitting it out to do some full time van life living.

Get a stealth camper,

or even a small box truck and have your setup in the back, if you wanna go that far..

I never thought to live in my truck. Even at my poorest I took a loan against my truck to get into a place. I guess I am indoctrinated to the system. If I could go back in time I would have done it and reinvested all the money saved back into a biz.

Hi bro,

I have met someone doing the van thing and would highly suggest you look at doing that.

Firstly, a van has so much more space and i know the dude i met, had enough space of a single matress.

I have met other people who rent "storage space" for super cheap and even sleep in there.. however, when you get caught, you will be out.

Showering can be difficult, when you have no money. However, if you do have the money, you can join local gyms, look also for local swimming pool areas, even if you don't like swimming, you can usually get in there for a smaller fee than the gym membership.. as you can go and pay for a couple hours of swimming.. you don't need to swim.. just use the shower, get cleaned up and they generally tend to have areas where you can plug in your laptop too, with free wifi.

Ensure to download an app from the app store called "Wifi map" - whereever you are, i bet there is some free wifi.. people in normal neighbor hoods, restaurants, tourists, share the wifi passwords on this app.. it's super good but also super loco that people would share there personal wifi and password, with people who could do anything really on that network!! anyways, just download it.

"free wifi" there may even be local developed apps but wifi map is the best I.M.O

So so far, we have got you a shower, free wifi...

now for charging points...

for your phone, make sure you have a portable power bank for your phone, you can even get solar ones now, which i have seen people use... as long as your in a place, where you get a lot of sun! You can even get the portable power banks for your laptop too.. so you always have some backup electricity.

Make sure to invest in a decent sleeping bag, small pillow, so that you can get some sort of sleep..

I have seen people here travelling with there vans, just travelling up from beach to beach and sitting and chilling there a few days, getting high, drinking, eating and working..

as for food, depending how desperate you are ?

bin can always provide, look for restaurants at night. go to the local airport/train station.. airports are abundant with food, as people are travelling and tend to chuck away sandwiches, chips, coca cola, water, etc.

you can look for local charities, that will let you eat a few days for free, without needing to give any details.

i think these are the major points for now.

Going down this road though, is a major learning eperience about yourself and your capabilities. It wont be easy but if you can successfully get through this, then you will be prepared for whatever life can chuck at you.

i don't have a van, so tend to sleep in public areas. However, go for it bro, i think you can do it!

if you have any other questions, just pm !

P.S - If your in a location where there is a beach, you can also use the showers there.. however, i don't like it. I prefer to shave and shower in private.

Dam you really are a hobo lol. I was assuming that I would be making at least $2k a month online. Have about $600 in bills and put the rest of the money into a biz.

lol yeah, you could say so :)

just remember, keep clean, have manners, always remembers you please and thank you's, don't over do it on the alcohol and you will have a good time.

its funny you mention about the van, i read an article the other day, here it is, about a guy also travelling in the uk, with his van.

https://www.theguardian.com/news/2018/jun/08/gypsy-damian-le-bras-road-traveller-roots

please read it bro, if you are serious about travelling with your van

i see some people try it , parked up on streets but eventually get told off.

aparently it illegal in uk to sleep in your vichele some sort of health and safty law.

plus your not insured to sleep in a vichle and it violates your insurance.

wonder if that true or all bullshit.

a lot of homeless people do it .

Never been my cup of tea and never had to as always had a steady income from jobs. Neither do I like the camper,rv & van kind of thing it is just not for me. I need a nice shower, always clean clothes and hate laundromats where other people wash their stuff. Hated the building laundromat in NY (need to clean and disinfect before using, but hey some just use that and other laundromats) until we moved into a house with own washer/dryer.
It feels nice to have a nice place to stay and shows me again how hard it is to just simply get a nice clean place when you travel (no matter the budget), so no way would I ever do this. If I have more space in the plane when flying then in the place I "live" it is NOT FOR ME.

Just remember to factor in:
- Where do you live ? Is it hot/cold at night and you need to keep the engine running 8 hours straight?
- Where do you park? Getting robbed, or just straight out kicked out by space owner/police
- Where do you shower? I need at the very bare minimum one shower a day, more 2 every day WHEN I WANT,
- Where do you wash your clothes/dry clean?
- Assuming things go south, need an address for Employment/Banks etc...

Either way, good luck !

I notice a lot of people making the assumption that one would need to be poor or out of options in order to want/have to do this.

It could not be further from the truth. We did it because we wanted to travel and it was the easiest thing at the time. After doing it for a few months, using it as a place to sleep was a lot of fun. We stayed in a lot of hotels admittedly, we stayed at a lot of friends houses when traveling and visiting people, we had a blast. It was not a necessity by any means. It was something we always wanted to do and we wanted to get the fuck out of the rut our ecomm businesses had become for us.

I would recommend this for anyone caught up on material things, all of these young youtubers look like they could do with a few months traveling around with few possessions living out of a truck. One of the best thing we ever did in terms of personal growth. The businesses have a lot to do with that philosophy too. It's hard to waste money on crap when you know what it could do for your business or the inventory you could carry etc.

It makes us appreciate the things we have and appreciate the things we decide not to have or burden ourselves with. It makes us appreciate the house we live in and the situation we have compared to most of our friends and family who have to work jobs they hate to make someone else rich.

It should not be seen as a last resort by any means nor should anyone doing it be looked upon as a hobo. It's not for everyone but who really knows until they try it for at least a month or two.

That's my two cents.

I suggest at least a small reliable RV that has a toilet if you want to do this long term. Preferably a medium to large one with a shower. I can see living in a van getting shit really fast.
