Im considering the move to the philipines so that I can increase my marketing efforts and have made plans to employ a number of people who will work with me on projects.

I know I am new to the forum but does anyone have any experience with the philipines? Are there good people there who could become leaders in their own right? Or do most just work under direction?

Would appreciate any info as I havnt ever been there myself.

Im from the Philippines, there are more than enough skilled people here that you can turn to into leaders of your business. Of course this will also depend on how you treat and train your people here.
 
Hi, I am from the Philippines. Although It will be bias to say about our country, but I believe our country is a potential market for you to expand your business to about 90Million population.
 
there are many great talents here. Just treat your employees well and they will produce great output. People likes to work when the working environment and management is nice.
 
Cheers for the advise guys, we would be moving from New Zealand to run the business there. Any recommendations on the best places to setup etc? Also do people in general stay prety loyal to a business that treats them well?

geoffcruz your right I am sure. Alot of it will be about the training. For us that is the main objective at the start. To find the right people and then train them and see if we can produce any leaders who can run the business while we look to expand further.

Yes spollacs your right, that is part of the motivation to go there. The standard of living is much cheaper and the mentality seems to be alot more about work opposed from where I am coming from.

im actually from the philippines, eventhough im singaporean and half-filipino.

all i can say that philippines is a very nice place for you to put up some business here in such place with very nice people, and the prices for comodities are very low.

i am from usa and i love going to the philippines(every year) living is cheap and great there too but the business laws aren't too foreign investor friendly in my opinion.
 
Cool, thanks for that, yea contenth we have just finished the process really, apparantly the Philipines is one of the hardest places to setup a business in the world with all the laws they have in place.
 
My team is in Manila and we have about 4 Big companies in SEO field and marketing that you can partner with if ever you are here. If you are looking to start with business big. THen a joint venture is your best choice.

I have been to Manila quite a few times and am on the verge of assembling a team of people to work on my internet ventures as well.

Thing is, just like you, I am still testing waters and having a go about on how to organize, delegate tasks and sorts.

I was in the Philippines last year, Quezon City, that is. Cheap cost of living. You can get a serviced apartment in makati where everything is conveniently located and it's easy to hop around by cab/taxis. It'll cost quite a bit though so it depends on budgeting.

Alternately, I think Cebu is a great place. Good infrastructure for business and not too polluted as well. I actually am thinking of flying up.

Would love to meet people who can be of service since I am looking at hiring a team.
 
hi pmguru, philippines is one of the best places to set up a business. yes there are a lot of negative things to say, including the bureaucratic mess, but once you have learn to deal with all those things, making a living there is such a breeze. the people are really good, just treat them rightly.

Never knew there were lots of Philippines guys around here. Im a half filipino too but Im at U.K. -- Guys at my country (PH) were pretty hard working and could catch up fast so its really great to setup a biz there. But beware of the taxes when setting up a business.. Government sucks though.. Cheating filipinos
 
If you go to odesk, many of your projects are accommodated and fulfilled in PH. :)
 
Just thought I would jump in here to say this is something I am interested in. I've got 2 employees in PH right now, and as I'll be moving to Japan in a few months, I was thinking I might rent an apartment in PH, maybe Cebu, and commute between the 2.

One question I had was, I am thinking about hiring a business/project/marketing manager to help run things for me, and was wondering about the market for such positions in Cebu. I would like to hire someone located in the area, who would work from home but would work directly with me when I am in Cebu. For all you guys in the Philippines, would you recommend Cebu as a base of operations, or perhaps somewhere else I haven't thought of? I'm looking for somewhere with a good infrastructure, skilled workforce, but also nice beaches/lifestyle. I want to avoid Manila.

One more thing, how much would a small, basic apartment cost in Cebu? If its cheap enough, I would just keep it rented, or would something like a weekly serviced apartment be better?

thats what i do i just pay (undertable) style i outsource web programming there and pay some junior,intermediate coders at ateneo univers.

Also going to move to asia in a close future (if everything goes as it should).

Any idea how much you need to pay for workers like doing dataentry, what could the monthly salary be ? Just basic data entries etc. $300 per month? Is that an OK salary in PH?

I dont have any idea!
