OMG HOW CUTE IS THIS THREAD?!

Seriously, it's too cute. And to contribute something useful and not sound like a spaz, I will tell you this story:

Once my family and I were driving to the store and we saw a turtle in the middle of a busy street. We pulled over and I ran out into the street to get him. He bit the bottom of my dress bc he thought I was a threat to him. So I stood there letting him attack my dress while my sister got a reusable grocery bag out of the trunk.

We managed to get him into the bag without too much fuss. Then we ran to the opposite side of the road and put him near a pond.

You're probably thinking "Wtf how could you block traffic like that?!" Actually everyone was pretty understanding and just went around us once they saw we were trying to get a turtle out of the middle of the street. We live in a really small town and a lot of animals get hit by cars. Saving one felt like saving the world.

Kudos, sure fire way to keep the karma in balance.

Have to say you really remind of someone i know personally, you don't happen to live in the north west of England do you?

Hmm.. after reading about the turtle, I remembered why I could be so much pessimist about keeping those little animals caged (the dogs, cats, squirrels, etc can go outside and do fcking anything they want and still come home to be among the family, but these little "pets" need to be caged to save them from the obvious -- even a foot in the wrong place could be so devastating for them). Anyway here is my little story:

Once when visiting my brother for about a week, it was around the year 2001 probably, I had gone to a place which was famous for selling little pets. There I saw one small Singaporean tortoise. It was so cute and colorful in green shades that I loved it instantly! I bought it and gave it to my brother. His family, especially his 2 young daughters loved it. They kept it in a fish tank first and then in a large tub filled with water and other things that would suit the tortoise. They even named it. The tortoise grew fond of the family. It loves to roam around the rooms, and especially loves to watch the telly .

His favorite place is sitting under the sofa on a cloth especially reserved for him. He intensely watches the idiot box from there, but when my sister in law comes to watch the telly and sits on the floor, this little guy comes to her and climbs her laps and then turns around and watches the programs! lol. He takes feeds from her hands and from no one else. He loves to take his bath from her and my brother. For others, he would go to the bottom of his little tub pond and stay there until the guests go out, but he will come up once in a while to see if they are still there. Once they go, this guy will come out again, and roam around his room. OK, so where is the problem, you would ask! Since many years, I have thought of if this kind of life with my brother's family was actually suited to that tortoise which has now grown to around a foot in length? Shouldn't he have some of his own mates to be with? And... is he really happy as a lonely animal which can see other guys like him only on the TV screen?

The dogs and cats can go out, but this one can't! When he was young, the crows would come to the open balcony and would try to take him away as their food. So this guy's little pond was kept at the farthest wall of that room. But now, even a little one sided fight with the crow or even with a dog could be devastating on him. For many years, I had been persuading my brother and his family to take that tortoise to the pond of a very kind person, which has every thing in place for such little ones. There are many tortoises in the pond, and this one would get better care and love... but no one listens to my suggestions. Sometimes I wonder why I bought that little tortoise and that got it some great love and care, but overall it got him bonded for a life away from its own environment....

This is probably why I asked OP to release the cute mouse once it gets strong enough. Sometimes, all the dangers to itself would actually help it "evolve" naturally, rather that live a loving but bonded life forever! Or at least make a suitable environment for him if you have the means, like a well-guarded garden where it would still be in a free atmosphere comparatively...

Spaz all you like - I've done this with a hedgehog, a sheep, a cat and, most dangerously, a swan.

domestic cats are not really wild so it's not interfering with nature, cats toy and torture the animal as they have no need to hunt as they are er.... domesticated. OP did the right thing to save it from being tortured by two animals that don't need to find food to survive.

Who the hell runs around rating these threads? Seriously, someone gave this a three? It's a thread about rescuing a mouse and you not only rated it (which was unnecessary), you gave it a three.
