I know about nginx but I read it's very difficult to configure and set up. Is there a free alternative to litespeed that anyone's had a good experience with?
Which one makes your server faster? I really like litespeed's speed, but the extra $30 a month seems excessive.
And are they both drop-ins for apache like lightspeed is? I'm reading about them online but there's a lot of server lingo in all the discussions I find.
Alternative to alernatives:
Optimize apache and use caching. You can get similar performance. Also, htaccess nukes performance. Disable that and put directives in the hosts.conf or vhosts.conf
Good tips. I went ahead got the monthly membership of litespeed since it's only $15, but I'll definitely try ditching htaccess and going the other routes. I host clients' sites and I don't want the server to just be good, I want it blazing. It's damn fast now, but you can never be too fast.
