List building methods

I am looking to develop a more specific understanding on list building and growing my audience.*


Right now, commenting on other blogs and spending time on WR are fun, but not exactly my cup of tea. I do have a lot to share, and wish to share, I just do not want to see my efforts evaporate. That said, I am curious if you have any particular list building strategies that have worked for you: That being using a key digital product you gave in return for them signing up - including multiple give aways.


I look on sites quite often at their templates and there are many common features used. However, I'm just curious because I have a driving urge to write a digital product on an successful adventure I had as a golf consultant in Brazil. I did learn quite a bit from that as it stands relative to being an entrepreneur, but that was offline, using my computer to build materials and mainly teaching in person and meeting.*


Again, I would like to ask anyone if they do not mind submitting their experience in list building and what worked well for them. What helped you increase your opt-in rate the most.

ok here is what u want to do all the old methods work stay away from tools because lots of time goggle will take your site down then u must learn how to work with social media there free ways and ways that cost money but if done right both will work but there many ways that will work but u will need to go at it hard its all depends on how fast u want to grow , if u need any other info let me know im here to stay

You're very non specific when explaining how to accomplish something and you'd be of more help to say nothing rather than to state things that you don't know are true. For example, not all "tools" are bad and Google doesn't just take your site down because you've used SEO tools or automation. What you should say is that it's important to know which tools to use and how often you should use them so the bottom line is:

Be experienced in SEO/IM before doing this yourself.

Also, while Social Media is important, it's not the only ranking factor of a site as you make it out to be. It's important but quality link building exceeds the importance factor compared to Social Media and is still the premise of building an authoritative quality site.

This will vary as a result of numerous factors (including but not limited to niche, site layout, target audience) so testing on your part will be required.

Some things off the top of my head that would be helpful for you to experiment in would be pop ups vs static widget, placement of that pop up/widget, voluntary (non-incentivized) opt-ins vs. giveaways (though this one is typically pretty easy to guess), different giveaways, traffic sources (social media, organic search, etc), colors, call to action copy, etc...

Luckily leagues of people have done and published studies on every single one of these variables!

You've definitely been of insight, everyone contributes in their way; the point of a forum

I am all for experimenting, but let's be honest, the time is not best spent on blog posting (which I do daily). There are a few more steps to it, one of which is me becoming organized. I just installed a new theme, which I like better.

Second, I think before any of this testing can take place I need to produce this digital product. There's nothing to test on when you have nothing to work with lol. Tweeting doesn't work, Facebook updates don't work. And commenting endlessly, on nofollow pages, which are everywhere, doesn't work either.

Frankly, producing blog posts and podcasts and trying to throw away digital products is what this boils down to in my opinion. The rest is up to you and for testing, one in the same lol.

I have not experimented outside of IM because I am not into purchasing a drop shipping site. I am a full-time student & work, I'm barely sleeping as is, though content to do so happily, to build my business to be...

I think me a Veyron should do a nich site to see who best and u use your tools and I will do it my way and we will see who best . so if anyone would like to see this reply back and I will show u why im good at seo and social media marketing .See he think just because I just got on here I don't know nothing but let get this going I bet I will do more a site in a week than he can do I 30 days so come on everyone who want to seem him try to prove he better reply back

You can find free things on the internet to give away, rather than making something. If we're getting blackhat here, let's say your competitor is selling a product that would be suitable for your to give away... download his product (for free, of course) and just give it away for free in exchange for an email opt-in.

Not sure what you mean by this... purchasing a drop shipping site? There are other things out there that would certainly prove more accessible.

But at the end of the day, if you can get traffic, you can get opt-ins - with or without a giveaway.

I get that of course, it comes from such an enjoyable origin.

This does sound wonderful, avoiding work and seeing results right away. Albeit I need to increase my own skills, and create my own materials - unavoidably.

I could definitely try some giveaways as a portion of my testing phase - it will allow me to start testing sooner.


The dropshipping reference: Well I am more or less talking about e-commcerce, the easier version.

I haven't exactly found my niche niche yet, I just like entrepreneurship and consider my blog to be a personal platform to build my online skill set. At a later point I can start expanding and throw up brand new sites in a specific market, tailored and all, and follow a routine formula that I most likely developed from personal experience.

Right now, the question is building a true list, and seeing how or why people find me interesting. I need to learn how to get to know my audience, well getting one is a start lol.

First find your potential audience, then find out how you can engage them... then engage them
