Anybody here use Linux as main OS? What is your favorite distro and flavor?

I have only used Ubuntu, Kali and Fedora. Fedora with gnome is by far my favorite. After switching to Linux as main OS i will never touch windows or mac again unless i have to. I like controlling my own computer and not being a slave to microsoft and apple.

ah the awakening hehe.. doesn't matter which distro, its how you configure it and what you like more about the distros.
main differences for example are the package managers like apt-get on debian and yum on fedora/centos and so on
 
My favorite for dropping tools... LFS from debian source without a DE. For everyday work/dev ... Debian. For pentesting Kali. For enterprise client work Redhat. For Video/Media rich simplicity.. Suse. For SEO/data tools... Arch with strong Pythonic focus.

Does linux increase your efficiency if the answer is No, You are wasting your time on it.
 
Linux Mint is my favorite and I use it every day.
 
I use Linux mint. You can learn linux with this.
 
Manjaro

If you know Linux already, go with arch. I just know enough to live with Linux so I just use Manjaro.
 
Love Linux for server OS. But the gui and the Linux workstation, it’s a big no from me. It’s not anywhere near developed enough to compete with Microsoft or apple imho.

yeah same here, I'd rather use it with a terminal/Vim alone, I dont like their GUI that much. It looks like it has been designed with css and it doesnt feel solid unlike windows or mac.

I use linux as my main os. Have been since the 1990's. Of course I can't fully give up Windows so I keep one desktop and one notebook computer running Windows 10. All my other work machines are Linux.

Have you tried it recently? The newest release kUbuntu (ubuntu + kde) 18.04 is amazing. I think 19 is almost out if not out already.

I was a terminal user for years. But since the latest Ubuntu releases they've really stepped up their GUI game here. I know it was quirky in the past but for me now everything works.

Only issue I find is with the lack of a single file explorer standard. If one browser uses one file API, the recent files and other special folders show one thing and a different file manager shows another. This is my main complaint with the GUI right now.

Everything else is very smooth even on my notebook computers. I flip it open and it's instantly connected to wifi, no quirks, detects anything I plug into it and so on. A couple years back it'd choke on some wifi places and stuff like that. No more IME.

I can remember using Win 1.4 with a "backport" style that "created" the Koolest new thing... copper connected networks at 9600. ;)

Never was a Vim/Emacs user.

Sometimes, chasing the Win/Mac feel was a mistake (Gnome/KDE/Unity)... Yuck... I agree

but a happily fucked with XFCE can be fun to use ( with a little GIMP/Blender skills in combo .. the creative skies have no limit. can't create 3d pannels and manipulate them through Compiz in Win10) even though initially it may seem a little drab "out of the box".

and fluxbox can really be something that takes the Microglitz out of the picture all together, with added flexability.

On my main machine I started with Kali, then Linux Mint, then Arch, which I've had for several months now. I use Debian stable on all my VPS.
 
Big user of Debian,

And UNIX such as FreeBSD for ZFS management

I liked the old ubuntu UI to be honest, I just dont got the feeling for gnome/kde and some other stuff, well, xfce seems good to me too. I just feel like, classic.

I must admit I haven’t tried it for quite a while. Maybe I’ll give it another go sometime.
 
I have started long time ago with Ubuntu 5.04 (Hoary Hedgehog), tried almost all distros but on the end i stayed with Ubuntu.
