Linkwheels - Post Your Successes and Failures Here!

I have tested and tried different variations of Linkhwheels and they all seem to work although results varies as well.

I have tried 6,8, 12, 18 and 24 Linkwheel on different sites and I am quite impressed with the results. One of the sites I worked on last has jumped from page 3 to page 1(#10) as of today.

On the second page, I also found two of the web 2.0 properties that I created. I created this wheel 8 days ago without doing anything extra ordinary. No bookmarking, no rss submission or pinging. Although doing some of the above would have got them indexed much faster without having to wait so long. What I like most about this linking method is that it drives the main site right up the engines at the same time that the web 2.0 brings targetted traffic.

Thanks to lemonsauce...this looks like one of the linkbuilding system that has come to stay if it is done right.

I'm currently experimenting linkwheel and am getting good results :) I got ranked #2 for 7 keywords so far, 3 #1 rankings and a lot of ranking from 3-10th position. I've had greater success by targeting subpages. For example, I own an article directory (only articles I buy or PLR). I have each page designed to capture emails with a different offer for every category, this way I get niche prospects. Anyway, I've been creating linkwheels for different articles and categories within my article directory and response has been great. I'm getting a steady flow of traffic and emails.
 
Ive done about 3 so far. I did them all fairly quickly and am just now starting to work on backlinks too them or fine tune them.

Its hard to tell whether the linkwheels are the reasons for high serps, or just onpage optimisation. But i think it does have something to do with it, and certainly i can see the backlinks all coming in on google. Still a waiting game however.
 
You might remember me from such posts with Excessive Title Capitalization As the One I Made Yesterday, so needless to say I'm not very experienced in linkwheels. I have found out some things, however.

I have two linkwheels currently in use, a ten-property with a single WP blog as the target and a six-property with the main focus on a blogspot website. I'm actually surprised, squidoo ranks first for my blogspot and hubpages third on my WP blog.

One interesting thing I've noticed is that quizilla doesn't allow html markup in pages, so I'm waiting to see how actual url-text pans out. My guess is less than anchors because it's missing that blue underline.

I've noticed that some elements like Hubpages get indexed within three hours, but some other elements like Vox take forever to index. Considering it's a blog site, I thought it would be indexed faster? Sometimes indexing is unpredictable.

I will agree that content on your linkwheel properties is king though, because the pages that I didn't spin typically rank higher. That and both my squidoo and hubpage both have considerably more text than do the others. (At least 4 times, albeit keyword density is higher on the pages with less text. I'll probably go back and revise them and re-ping to see where I get.)
 
Some people need to realize that a link wheel, like anything else, only works if you do keyword research first. If you're targeting the phrase "make money online" you can make link wheels all week long and you'll never get to the front page. If you target something with less than 10,000 results in quotes you can get the front page. It's just like anything else. Keywords research is king boys! I wish I had learned that sooner.
 
I cannot find the damn rss feeds of my web2.0 properties to ping them..
hubpages, weebly, vox, xanga, quizilla, 30 boxes, help.com..

do these sites have actually rss user feeds, and where are these?? I am going crazy looking for these..

If they dont have rss feeds, how to promote the web2.0 props best??

Just created my first linkwheel yesterday. It's to promote a french site, so I only used French free blogs sites. I just googled for "blog gratuit", and took the highers pageranks.

I was quite impressed that one of the properties showed in google no more that 1 hour after I created it.

And this morning, 4 on the 7 are indexed.

What I did :

1/ Created the properties
2/ Pinged it with Pingoat
3/ Submit the RSS using RSS Submit

@ sqhunter, not every site has RSS feeds, I dont know for the ones you mentionned, but for the ones I used yesterday, only 4 out of 7 had RSS feeds.

Now I shoud promote the new pages..

A question : When you promote you new web properties, do you link on the domain (hxxp://mykewword.wordpress.com), or the deep page when it's possible (hxxp://mykeyword.wordpress.com/2009/08/03/hello-world) ? Both maybe ?
 
Stupid question maybe... But is the linkwheel blackhat or whitehat?
 
i tried 2 times a 6 spoke linkwheel on wpmu sites and autopligged them...

no success. it is 3 weeks ago

can anybody tell how many links the competitors have your successful linkwheels rank out?

hubpages, weebly, vox, xanga and quizilla have RSS freeds, not sure about last two because I didn't try them so far. Download this Linus' e-book http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/member-downloads/66543-get-linkwheel.html there is explained how you can get RSS feeds for those mentioned above.

Try using allintitle:keyword operator in google.com and through USA IP.

This is how Areeb, the creator of SEnuke describes difficulty of keyword (numbers are from my analyze in SEnuke niche research module)
Number of allintitle results:
Extremely easy - <200
Easy - 700
Doable - 1500
Not the easiest - 3000
Could be Tought - 5000
Difficult - 10000
Don't Waste Your Time >10000

However, it is a top10 in SERP that matters. Sometimes keyword with allintitle result of 5000 will be easier than keyword with allintitle 1000, but most of time the lower allintitle result equals to easier keyword.
 
after doing a LW one week ago with keyword "buy xxxx" in title of web2.0 props and in anchor text in the content also that exact phrase, my serps for main page have actualy dropped for that exact kw phrase in bigG and yahoo :(

As i remember linus said to to use the exact kw in the title and as anchor text.. hmm

maybe any phrase that is bluntly "buy ****" is a not a good choice?
 
This is a great thread, lots of interesting info and experiences.

But...

I wonder if anyone is making any money with their linkwheels?

I have sites (not in linkwheel config) that get tons of traffic, rank on 1st page of Google, etc...and my conversions are low (yeah, I know that's my fault and I should split-test, rewrite my copy, outright lie or otherwise suck people in) for affiliate marketing.

Other than an exercise in how to mind-fuck Google, are these things any good for income? It looks to me like they take a huge amount of time or a medium amount of money (senuke) to get done.
 
i just want to ask a question is it better to just make 1 linkwheel per keyword like 8-16 enough to dominate SERPs and not make sublinkwheels and then just get BLs to these sites in your main linkwheel as if they were your money page... and then i guess later down the line when your mainlinkwheel 2.0 sites get ranked high then do subwheels do dominate more positions correct anyone... input...
 
It has worked for me but like this...

My main site has shown no improvement at all in the SERPS. However my social bookmarked pages of each of my linked web2.0 sites have shot up. I have 2 of them on the first page for one of my keywords and 7 of them on page 2 for the same KW.

I've also differed from the original concept in that each of my linked sites has at least 40% different content as I don't want it to look spammy. As I said, it has made no difference to my main site yet but I'm sure it can only be a matter of time.

Ive had a pretty similar result, however it really is a matter of time before google snaps back into action and realises where all these bookmarks are heading and pushes you forward.
