    Hi

If you get back links from a page that is not related to your nitch, would that hurt you ranking and lower traffic for some keywords?

    Thank You

The question should be: How valuable is this link? Not will it hurt my rankings? Related links are obviously more valuable than non related but a link is a link, a vote is a vote, just some votes carry more weight than others. The only time an unrelated link will harm your site is if it is coming from a bad neighbourhood and this is pretty rare.

I have a "make money at home" sort of niche site.I also have a blogger site on animals..the most backlinks that google actually shows using the google toolbar for my make money site...all come from my animal site which is a pr3..go figure.
I had looked at a decent ranking web site selling insurance..traced some of their backlinks to a flower web site.??
Nothing on the site..looked into the page source..and their were the links to the insurance site as well as viagra etc..
Google "rewarded" this insurance site with hidden links from a flower shop.!!

    Hi xpro!

It won't hurt your ranking, every link helps

though, a link from a website that deals with the same nitch - will be very valuable

I posted this somewhereelse on this forum but here it is again. Its useful to get a true reflection of your back links in Google

Its not exactly link building, but link monitoring

I have always found that Google does not report backlinks accurately, thesearch modifier

    Code:
    link:mysite.com/page1.html
doesn't always bring back the full amount of backlinks in Google indexed pages, I have found that if you add a second modifier, you get a more realistic picture, try

    Code:
    link:mysite.com/page1.html -site:mysite.com
This will show external links to your site or page

    hi

I think its not only about hurting or not hurting but developing quality
it is true that every link counts but then too getting links from your own niche is considered a much better option and helps much more in SEO

you wont get banned but filling your site with such free links which are not worthy can cause some harm too if done too much

good luck with getting backlinks for for your website

    thanks
