Linkedin Influencers?

Can you elaborate more on what your goal is for using LinkedIn?

As far as my current account I have a decent following, but what I've seen recently is specific accounts have hierarchy within their specific industry. My question revolves around if this status is achieved by "collecting" followers or is this achieved through engagement. I would say within my niche market there are many industry leaders, but I haven't seen an industry influencer on Linkedin as of yet. Just seemed like a good area of opportunity.
