The pagespeed is important because it ensures that users do not abandon the page before loading.
I usually when I visit a site if it does not load immediately I abandon and choose the second site in the Serp.

A good free way of checking your page load speed is using Page Speed Insights or GT Metrix.

You can use Wordpress cache plugins to optimise your website load speed :)

Page speed is much important and it must be fast to access the blog post to the audience.
This is one of the ways to increase the traffic too
 
It affects everything, from how your website ranks to your conversion rate, so having fast loading webpages is absolutely essential.

There are many Websites that are ranking on top of google in spite of a poor Page Speed, which begs the question, If the Page Speed parameter worth glossing over. Here's the thing, you Page Speed comes into play as a competitive advantage wherein you're struggling to outdo your competition and have necked up on all or most other fronts like KW targeting, Onpage Optimisation, Link Building etc. There are hundreds of optimisation techniques which are directed to get better of your competition, Page Speed is just one of them, which is in our control, have definite outcome to judge in terms of various page rendering and of course is easy to implement.

But surely you need to weigh your options when it comes to invest your time, effort and money in optimising your page speed.

Loading speed, matters in SEO. Opinions on how much it does, differs. Lots of big sites have pretty slow loading speed but still rank just fine.
 
In simple words:
Site speed is that time taken load a page when you search for a keyword. If your site take a few seconds to load then the visitors might choose some other site. So speed of the site will help you to rank higher.
