Linkblasting?

Clearly I'm a newb (poor me) but I have a question for you guys. I don't really understand what link blasting is? Can someone explain it to me or point me to a an article maybe? (Yes I have googled it).

Is link blasting still appropriate theses days? If not is appropriate to blast 2nd tier links?

Link blasting is when you create a lot of backlinks( poor quality, a lot of quantity) pointing to your website.

They are more effective for tiers 1 and 2, so you avoid penalties, and get a better link juice.

Linkblasting is a generic term IMHO. It just means spamming the heck out of a given link or domain. This may be via various softwares like xrumer or scrapebox, SENuke, etc. In doing so, trying to get your SERPS up quickly. (Search Engine Results). This is not as effective as it was prior to the most recent google update, but obviously Google still values backlinks.

As far as what to linkblast? Not your "money site" or the page/domain you are ultimately trying to drive traffic too. I say go for it on tier two and three links. The links pointing to they your money site or your links pointing to those. Be careful as you go, if you over do it it can actually hurt your rankings.

It's spamming various internet forums and blogs with links pointing to any given website so it will get higher position in search results. Not recommended in most cases.
