I can't say it's slow, especially when it just check the backlinks... if you then want it to check all included backlink factors such as domain age, domain pr, anchor text, title etc for few thousand backlinks it can be slow.
I can't compare it with Majestic SEO, as I'm not using the paid subscription of Majestic, thus can't check other websites backlinks, which is the main purpose of SEO SpyGlass.

Well, last time when I used it the result was ridiculously bad.
I think I'm getting newly created backlinks in the new version.

It seems they are using new back engine. I just downloaded it and submitted a query to get backlinks for a my own site. It shows correct backlinks. But it takes much time to give the detailed report.
How long it takes for 1000 backlinks?

right, SEO SpyGlass now collects backlinks from two places:
- new place - internal backlink index
- usual places 412 search engines (full list here)
In free version you can only see 1,100 sites per site and do 5 checks per day
In paid version - Pro and Enterprise - you can get up to 100k and 200K BLs respectively, from the database AND as many BL's from external sources as SEO SpyGlass can find (up to 80K)
how slow SEO SpyGlass is also depends a lot on a computer and since it's a desktop tool and not a cloud-based service it will always a bit slower

As I said just finding the backlinks takes not more than 30 seconds per 1000 bls, but for checking all other factors it can take 10 minutes / 1000 bls.
Yessss! Finally a reliable backlink checker is back. I've been a frequent user of spyglass as welll until YSE shut down and there numbrs were inaccurate. Have to go try it out again.
Anyhow, for checking my own backlinks I usually just use google webmaster tool though, always show the most accurate number. Problem was that I couldn't use it on my competitors
