If I have SSL on my website, should I backlink to the http url or the https url?

Bear in mind the http redirects to the https version of the site.

Always to the "https" version of your website.
You don't want to link it to the http version of your site since a redirect also takes time.

Link to https for the best results.

You should have auto direct it already from http-https, https is becoming the standard.

You can place your backlink as "https" it will be better.

Obviously the version thats indexed on Google.

If the HTTP version is indexed in Google this should be fixed first, since HTTPs is the standard and should always be used if available.

Literally just copy/paste your site URL from address bar. That's it.

SSL become main aspect in SEO ranking because clients used to trust and access the sites which are SSL protected. If your website is eCommerce site then customer used to do payments only with SSL sites. SSL sites load faster than non-SSL site so it's automatically increase the page ranking.

When customer used to see the green padlock on top left corner of the web-browser then the click rate of such sites is greater than non-SSL site. Trust factor is associated with the SSL site.

You just need to make sure that you have updated every single instance of http with https and added the proper 301 redirection whenever necessary. There is no negative impact of SSL certificate on your domain if you have applied the SSL properly.

Yes, forget backlinks girls and boys. It's all about SSL now.

We should be switching everything to https.

Better go with https and rest use with Branded anchors.

SSL gives more credibility in the eyes of users

Using SSL everywhere in your website and backlink to the SSL enabled one
