Link from a French website?

I've managed to get a do follow link from a blog post on a blog from my niche. It is exactly my niche, the only problem could be that the whole website is in French and mine is in English. Can this link still help my rankings?

Also, I wonder how long can it take to see a Google SERP improvement of my website after getting this link? Within 2 weeks?

it is helpful ... i doubt you get a great improvement form one link ...

Yes, it's just one link, but it's a link from a really strong website that is ranking #1 for many competitive keywords. And I so far I do not have any such strong backlink.

Get the links wherever you can and don't worry about the site being in French. However expecting any serp movement due to one link is quite sad.

From your words it seems like it was having good metrics site.But check the link before you fleet down from the rankings.
And you can see the good result only if the french link is good otherwise you can't see any improvement in rankings.
