I got the dreaded unnatural links email on a site.....

It had about 1K links from exchanges on linkmarket looking for some advice.

    1) Should I stop using now?
    2) Should I delete all the links I added on my site (this should mean that links to my site will be deleted)?

You have to delete all of the links appearing on your site. Actually you also have to delete all of the links pointing your site. Otherwise probably you won't recover again.

Link exchanges were mentioned specifically by Matt. He said that some sites did link exchanges "to an extreme". 1k in link exchanges sounds extreme to me.

Avoid link exchanges. They don't do much (if anything) for your site; and they leave a massive footprint!
