Link equity

Link equity is the collection of links that point to a site at any moment in time.

It is quite easy to know where you are in terms of your link equity. The search results and your traffic logs tell you. what's far more difficult is, knowing what to do about it ?
Do you need an aggressive new link building strategy? May be, the variables exists. What is it about your link equity, that is so different, better, worse, or similar to other sites in your niche? Are the measurable differences truly the reason a site ranks higher than yours? Not always.
Maybe all you need is a subtle pinch to what you are doing, or maybe you need to sell your site and cut your losses.

Hi Jessica, Like you I think I know what I want but also like you I am not sure how to get it.

Here are some of the things I have learned when it comes to google and what they are trying to do.

What they WANT is for users of google to type in a word or term and to get the most relevant answer for that word or term for the user. That is good customer service and keeps people using google which keeps advertisers paying google, which makes google happy.

The problem is how do we get ranked ourselves? Well, google has to think of our sites as the answer to the question that the customer is asking.

Getting links is not hard, we can find offers here and even cheaper on fivver that can get us hundreds if not thousands of links, the problem with that is google will notice eventually if it is not related to your site. Look at JC Penney. Google JC Penny Black hat or JC Penney and Google and you will see even THEY were google slapped: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/02/13/business/13search.html?pagewanted=all

This is becasue JC Penney had links everywhere and rose to #1 for almost EVERY search term related to retail there was. Bedding, dresses, electronics you name they had the #1 spot. Google found this and BANG they dropped to 7th or 8th PAGE for many of those KW's and JC P already has a good rep and thousands of links.

What we have to do is be more picky about what we link to and from and get good quality links. I too want many backlinks but I want them from good sources.

For example: If I have a site that is selling dog crap I want every blog that is related to dogs, crap, dog crap, pets, pet crap etc.. having some sort of link to my site. How do we do that? Well that is the part I am still trying to figure out myself.

I dont think it helps to have a link about your dog crap selling on a Mongolian chicken wrestling website, but that is exactly what we get sometimes.

What I have read alot about is people creating their own little blog network and then pointing all the blogs either to the money site or a buffer blog and then pointing the buffer blog to the money site. So they sign up for squiddo, wordpress.com, blogger etc.. and create an article or 2 that is relevant to their site and make sure to point it back to themselves.
The problem is I am not sure if unique articles are important here or not, so making a 2 or 3 new and fresh articles for each blog in your mini network can take quite a bit of time.

Anyway, I am thinking out loud here but I wanted to let you know that you are not alone in wondering how to get good quality, targeted links back to your site.

In the field of internet marketing, our concerns and efforts are concentrated not only on the link building techniques but also the changing algorithms, because any change in the algorithms directly affects the PR and SERP of the website. thus, it is very necessary that, whatever we are doing must be efficient and durable.
