Hey guys.

So basically if my webpage had really strong PR homepage links and I wanted to add some cheap contextual links for diversity, will the page be affect by any google updates?

One of the best ways to create contextual backlink is to generate unique high quality content that gets shared. Once you do that, you will automatically start receiving natural backlinks. This is a passive technique. PBN's are by far the fastest way and also you have complete control over your links.

Unique contents hold the key for cheap contextual links, make sure your contents are not spun. Also you can use the cheap links as Tier-2 and make it more effective.

if your backlink is purely and highly unique content means it's never affected by any google updates

It is not affected by Google, if you use a HQ content on the links

Dont use cheap links such as those made by SEO tools for diversity. Ur better off making sme profile and web 2.0 links to vary the anchor text.
