I guess you could say, it is a statement that is used to identify the art of building links from one website to another for the purpose of gaining rank in the search engines.

Dudes, Backlinks to the site you want to rank in Google are what pushes the site in the G rankings. Backlinks push sites towards the top.

... I think the best question here is how do you have over 50 posts on BHW and not even know what linkbuilding is?
I hate to use the word I am defining in a definition--but linkbuilding is, quite obviously, building links to a website. The search function (and some common sense) is your friend.

Link building is basically constructing a web of links to your website on the internet. The whole point of this is to direct traffic to your site when people click on the links, and also to increase your ranking on search engines. Many of the search engines include algorithms which count the number of links to your site and use that as a factor in determining your ranking. Of course this isn't the sole factor and some would even argue it isn't the most critical one.
Link building is the process of creating backlinks for your website. It means link of a web page from other websites for a web page. It is a process that keeps on changing over a period of time. There are many approaches for link building as

2. social bookmarking
3. article submission
4. press release
5. blog commenting
If link building is incorporated in a comprehensive search engine optimization approach, it will gain the full benefits from lonks from other sites and achive its potential.

Link building includes different methods through which you can divert traffic to your website and can increase the visibility of your site. There are lots of methods through which you can generate links like : guest posting, social bookmarking, forum postings, http://www.wohho.com submission, write reviews, blog commenting etc.
