Depending on how competitive your niche is, link building may not be as important as you think.
Yes, it’s true that link building will always be important in the large scheme of things, especially once you have started to scale up your website.
But, if you're just starting out, I would suggest focusing on lower competitive keywords.
Think of building your website as a choice between building it on sand or rock.
If you're building on sand, you're basically slapping on content and tackling topics based on what you think is hot.
In many cases, you're just blindly copying your competitors.
While that may work once in a blue moon, most of the time, you're just setting yourself up to fail.
The better way is to look at your competitors, reverse engineer their content, enter their domain into SEO tools, and figure out which of their content involves keywords that are less competitive.
Create content on those less competitive topics.
Once you've gotten some traction with those pieces of content, then start scaling up.
At some point, building backlinks would make more sense.
But if you follow the steps I outlined above, you probably will get better results with less time and money invested.
