Link Building Velocity for New Site

Launching some new sites, and I am going to do some experimentation with number and type of links, anchor text diversity, as well as social media - all to the home page.

Was wondering if anyone can tell me, from their experience (or a good case study), about a range for link velocity per week or per day that worked for them and didnt get them penalized.

Your question is extremely broad and general. It's like asking what is the best way to get to China or England. What niche is your website associated with? The most important thing is that your site accumulates links in a natural looking way. The niche are you are involved with plays a big part on what is considered natural. From a more general perspective, having real government and educational resource page links is always a plus. These are probably the most difficult to obtain but they will help boost your Domain Authority score which will in turn help your rankings. Local niche, CPC $12+, local search volume 500+.

Ya gov and edu are good. I have access to a high quality blog network, which works very well. I could put up a lot of high quality links on the network, but I need anchor diversity and link diversity. I am looking to figure out the best (fastest, most natural), way of building my links.
 
Check out your competitors registration date and do\no-follow + total backlinks. Get an average per year, divide by 12 and do that at most in a month. Keeping in mind that 500 searches a month is really low, so even if your competitors had 10k links, I wouldn't expect link velocity to be anywhere near the monthly searches, just a slim fraction of that.

You can build up good content and continue social signals in the meanwhile though, I've never heard anyone worry about be penalized by playing it fair in Google's eyes.
 
Link velocity doesn't matter at all.

Just focus on quality of links.
 
1000 quality links in a day for a new site wouldn't matter?
 
Define quality links in that case. If you're just saying that 1 good link is better than 1000 spammy ones, there's no need for elaboration.

What would constitute a quality link in regards to:
PA\DA\PT
anchor variation
no-follow\do-follow (rough percentage)
OBL

Surely we'd prefer to have an edu\gov., but what type of quality link would you be recommending?

link velocity is real and whoever says otherwise is foolish.

it will depend in niche...some niches are more sensitive to link velocity.
 
quality and diverse links (in all aspects) makes for a good recipe

be sure that you use different anchor texts, quality of links, pages you are linking to on your website and all that

build fresh content and go for it.

Do social media as thats nothing wrong and is only good good...
However regarding link building instead of making 100s or 1000s of links direct to your money site make few good links and then build tiered links to them for your money site... So dont link all to money site...
 
Odds are if you're building quality links you won't be able to build them fast enough to trigger a penalty. Some people think link velocity is more about trail off than the original number of links, the idea being the number built is higher at first and trails off over time (versus a big explosion that drops off immediately). I can tell you building too many links too fast (even no-follow) got my new domains slapped. Authority sites like YT and press release sites can handle as many links as you can throw at them, hence why black hatter use them to rank/churn and burn.
 
Does link velocity still matters? Just concentrate on building quality links on authoritative sites.
