Hey guys, just to share some of what I experienced recently and also hope for some opinion from some of you guys who have similar experience or something to share.

I had a partial matched domain (combination of 2 exact match keywords I wanna rank). I'm using the below as an example with some stats (not giving away my domain of course).

Domain:
beautifultopceilingfans.c0m

Trying to rank for:
1. beautiful ceiling fans (global 3600, US local 1600)
2. top ceiling fans (global 1900, US local 1300)

Both keywords after checking had rather low competition (check from google exact ("") and intitle).

Site details:
1. Main page 700 words
2. Additional 10 posts of between 350 to 400 words each, backlinked to my main domain with 5 anchors pointing to each keyword I was trying to rank.

As I registered this domain on 11 Apr while I was concentrating on another site, I merely did very minimum backlinkling and only used 4 fiverr gigs and another service from TP (200 web 2.0 to main site).

Each fiverr gig gave me mix of tiered web 2.0, social bookmark and microblogging. They were spread out like over the course of 1 month each. After 2 months, I was ranked for BOTH keywords on page 1, positions 4 and 6 respectively.

With the success, I thought that my site had "aged" and started a series of more backlinking and it did bring me to positions 2 and 4 subsequently. And with the success, I started to target inner pages and tried the same technique for them. It was then I noticed that mu rankings started to slide slowly downwards and I did a press release service recently. On the day PR was done, my rankings shot up (globally) and I had a very big jump in visitors and subsequently it went on a downhill (only US was ranked in page 1) and now both keywords are in page 2.

I do not think that this can be a dance because from my previous experience, google dance brings my main keywords to pages 10 and beyond and the ranking URL is usually a inner page. Now it is the domain itself that has gone down.

Any brothers or sisters here able to advise if there's anyway to bring the site back up again and what are good ways to maintain rankings (backlinking velocity) and also rank inner pages?

In my opinion, I might have hastened the process way too quickly (I'm doing link building every 3 to 5 days or a week). But perhaps there are underlying factors or maybe it's the recent Google change? I dunch know. Hope to hear some advice.

Hope I gave a clear picture of my predicament. Thanks BHW brothers.

There was a update on 19th sept that may be the reason.Diversify your backlinks.

how can you rank when your site is not even indexed

mate, the url given is just an example. i don't wish to reveal any detaild abt my domain.

You're over-optimizing and there's your penalty reason.
Don't rank with fiverr. Those guys usually let you do 3-5 keywords and you need 20-30, even more for 1k backlinks.

Have a look at cognitiveseo.com look at the tour but don't buy anything.
If you study 2-3 hours that website has insights into how you should diversify your backlink sources and keywords.

Actually I've found some gigs that allow about 7 to 10... I have to agree that I might not have diversified my anchors enough.

Just a query... for diversification, what kind of anchors might look like? Do I need to include my keyword inside eg. if I'm targeting "beautiful ceiling fans", I do "where to buy beautiful ceiling fans" and the likes? Meaning my keyword will be inside each anchor diversification?

BTW, thanks for the site info, I'll have it checked out later.

Thanks.

If you are building a small number of exact match anchor text, then you have probably just built too many links for your terms. Diversify and make sure the majority of your links are url or generic anchors.

Thanks for cognitiveseo - looks they will have interesting ideas for future changes in G

So even with Fiverr for example, you could select a few gigs and give different keyword / anchor texts for each to diversify. Sounds right, to me?

Have you analyzed your site on ahrefs.com?
Try that and look for recenlt deleted links.
Also try some of your competitors to see what theirs look like...

As for link velocity, maybe try a monthly plan here if your budget affords
if not, you can try diversifying by trying new types of links

Looking back, I was building a little of generic anchors initially. After success got to my head, I forgot about that rule. Maybe that's what got my site into trouble!

Aherfs is good tool for us. We must check backlinks profile and should consider new/lost backlinks of our site and competitors. This tool helps us to identify required anchors.

thanks for the information.
they are really helpful to do the link building really fast.

Throw your keywords into Adword's keyword tool it'll generate suggestions. Order by low competition, high traffic. Export. That's it.

There's an in-depth guide to anchor-profiles and the metrics to use post-Penguin here:

http://www.backlinkbanzai.com/GooglePenguinPart2.htm

It also gives ideas on expanding your base keyword pool and how to go about extending these further.

The problem with Fiverr etc is that it's a bunch of guys who aren't making much money out of doing a job, and so there's not a great deal of reason for them to consider things at a higher level. This is nothing against them individually; think how much work you'd be prepared to do for $3-4! Also, many of them really don't understand the first thing about current SEO; they just know how to use a couple of mass submission tools - which often don't provide the capacity for massive anchor diversity.

5-10 keywords just isn't enough; NOTHING LIKE. You need a lot of highly varied and extended anchors with a good mix of contained root keywords, together with a lot of generic and naked/URL anchors. Plus you need non-anchor related variety, like nofollow and platform/IP variety too of course.

keyword diversity it's the key. Also, take it slowly

hmm keyword diversity plus, slow link building also if some site has been spammed by links don't post your link there i see several sites with ugg boots spams

Hey guys, thanks for adding your input. Was busy past few days and did not have a chance to fully read thru.

Basically the most talked about topic was really on anchor diversification.

Assuming I managed to achieve diversification... how about ranking inner pages? And what are the impact ranking multiple inner pages at once? And finally, link velocity for ranking multiple URLs of the same domain?

Your thoughts?
