I have searched the forum for this so excuse if this is a stupid newbie question. Does building links to Facebook help for Link juice? Is there a spot where I can find out which Social Networking sites are best for this ie) do follow and good for tier 1 link building?

You mean links from Facebook helps in SERP? If its so yes it helps a lot. There are ton's of information available here also have a look at Download secession. Backlinks from twitter has more indexing value and you can spam more there.
Thank you...what I mean is I have links from a facebook profile named by the keyword to my main site and I am building links to the Facebook page to protect my main site. I have read this protects your money site and works well with web 2.0's but does it also work for Squidoo, tumblr, facebook....Are they all do follow and help with ranking?

The public profile links used to be do follow but after the upgrade to new interface, all links are now nofollow.
