I notice so many how to questions on backlinks, its really not that complicated just get your hands a little dirty do it you learn from experiences I know that's how it was for me years ago. Link Building Tips:

ï‚· Try to diversify the strategies you use to build backlinks. It is best if not all of your websites come from one strategy.

ï‚· Build your links slowly and methodically. Don't build them too fast, and don't stop building them altogether.

ï‚· Only use link building techniques that you are comfortable with. It is good to know Google's policies regarding links and then make your decisions.

ï‚· Start building links immediately. Don't procrastinate or over-analyze.

more tips for slow paced link building tips,

You've got the right idea to build genuine links slowly! Google is all about natural links.
-Are there any directories that are specific to your industry? If so, try to get a link there. Avoid directories that take anything and are spammy.
-Write great content for your website and your blog. When you have a great blog post, contact sites that post things relevant to your industry and let them know about the post asking them to share it with their readers or on social media. Use social bookmarking sites to share your post and then share your post on your own social media sites.
-Contact relevant blogs and ask if they'd be willing to accept a blog post from you containing a link to your site.

Also, make sure the links don't appear spammy at all... more and more these days is Google penalizing for old methods that no longer work.

There are some people who are in the habit of building links in huge quality. They don't know what is the current strategy of link building. As a result website is triggered as spam. Your tips are very helpful for building quality backlinks and you recommend quality over quantity.

Sorry if this is a little off-topic, but if you write a URL in a blog comment, and the blog doesn't turn that written URL into a link... is that an issue?

Mates!

Links have to be built slowly, manually, in the right ways, and in the right places I think.

NATURAL here does not mean slow, it means all those links are rated as natural by search engines just as you do forum signature/marketing, facebook fanpage post, twitter tweets, etc. Those are what they called natural links. I can't mention this for just a short comment here... but I hope you know about it.

Make some good content specials in your website and try to get an external wikipedia link...that's always good as well

Thanks but don't build links too fast? I don't agree with that, if you create relevant backlinks, it doesn't matter.
