They're good for diversity and to serve as foundational links. Don't bank on them to rank your site.

I don't recommend dumping lots of links on a new site that itself has only few content.

• Optimizing titles & meta descriptions
• Proper image optimization (alt tags, compression, etc.)
• Strong interlinking
