Link building ideas for this niche?

Hi. I'm making a knowledge base blog which I intend to monetize with ppc and selling leads.

Let's say the niche is restoration and renovation. I'm writing articles on how to identify spots which need to be touched up, what kind of materials to go for, how to find the right people for the job etc.
The real niche is more online friendly than that, I just wanted to give an example.

So I want to link to renovators in turn for a link back to my site. They would certainly benefit from this, I don't doubt the will is there.

But I don't see them writing a blog post and linking to me. These guys usually have simplistic websites and if they were to make a blog post on the topic, they could just try to rank for those keywords themselves.

I don't know how I would entice them to link to my article. Could they just hide a link on their website? Would google give them a slap? Any ideas?

Yes, this can work. I have done something similar in the past.

You can let them link from the homepage, footer or some other not very obvious place.

A link from the homepage is even more powerful than from another page.

These are legitimate professionals tho. Do you think they would be willing to do this? Will google spank me if they find out? What about the guys who linked?

I was even thinking of linking to a multitude of professionals for every state, but I think this would probably be overkill.

If you have to offer them something really good they might be willing do this, yes.
