I usually do the link after 30 days, at least 30-50 index

Just do it in a way that it passes the human test, you know what I mean.
The link should sound natural too if or any human or manual test is done to your backlinks it should pass that human test.
If you are doing in a natural and manual way slow and steady, just start it now. Look for quality backlinks.

Populate your site with note worthy content and attract visitors and readership. Cross link it with social media assets of your own and possibly videos pertaining to the niche and then start link building.
Imagine spreafing a word about your grocery store to a community / potential customers and when they arrive at store, the shelves are empty. These very customers will desist flocking to that store in future.
So I guess, build an authority within and then spread the word ( link building )
