Hey guys,

How should one approach link building for new sites? Start with a mix of foundation links? How soon after the domain was bought should you start your link building? How many links?

What are your thought processes for when and how to start link building for a brand new site?

I wouldn't suggest link building first, especially for a new domain with no authority.
I would have written decent contents targeting low SV. As many as you can.

Do this consistently for about 2-3 months. Pull an audit that should give you an idea of where/what money pages you should be trying to push on SERP.
 
The whole idea about "foundation" links is pointless, it's just a name for marketing purposes,
And most of them are actually spammy or/and useless nowadays, a bunch of web 2s, profiles, GSA type of links...

You can start almost immediately, there's nothing wrong with it as long as you build/buy links with the least decent quality,
Usually, links pointing to the homepage with branded, naked & generic anchors to boost the overall domain authority,

That will help with the indexing & ranking initially in fact,
From there, you can monitor the targetted keywords positions & plan the rest of the link-building process
 
At the start, you can focus on adding high quality articles with proper on page optimization, internal linking, etc., and promoting them on social media. Then, you can start slowly building links from reputed websites.

I suggest building your site content wise first then trying to acquire backlinks though.

Once you've purchased the domains, optimized them on-page, and ensured they have enough content to be indexed by Google, you can begin building links. These links can include any type, such as guest posts, blog posts, or diverse link options.
 
So initially you can start building foundational links withing first 1-2 weeks and then gradually start building links like guest posting , niche edits and also focus on the content quality as well
 
Initially build HQ content and ensure your site is technically optimized. establish your site's credibility and trust with google and gradually start link building.
 
I leave 3 months to work on links to my website, you also have to look at the quality of the links because sometimes none are indexed and a large percentage is indexed.

For a new site, my suggestion will be: start with foundation links like indexable links, citations and social profiles.

Also note that begin link building after your site is fully live and indexed. Build slowly and focus on quality over quantity.
 
For new websites, I recommend my clients focus only on backlinks that can actually drive traffic to their site.
Don’t try to get hundreds of links right away - concentrate on those that can bring real visitors, especially if the sites where the backlinks are placed are relevant.
