Link between Wordpress SEO plugin and backlinks

Hello everyone,

I've been using AIO SEO plugin for Wordpress on many websites. As many of you know, such plugin provide you with an option to set a Main Keyphrase. Let's say the website is about selling hangers, so you set up your front page's main keyphrase to 'cheap wooden hangers'. Then you start building backlinks to boost your website's rank. Should the main anchor text for the backlinks be the same as your main keyphrase that you've set on your onsite SEO plugin, or you can use different?

I am thinking of putting 2-3 different main keyphrases on the main pages and building backlinks for the same phrase. Is this the right approach?

You should avoid using the same or exact match keywords too often that the target page is trying to rank for. This can come across as spammy in Google's eyes. Use brand name or alternate words with same meaning

You want to mix up your anchor text to make it more natural as naturally sites linking to you would not always put exact match keywords in their backlink to you.

These "Keyphrase" has nothing to do with your anchors, links or SEO directly at all,
They're added by the plugin to allow you to organize and optimize the page content and internal links for these keywords,

Previously they were added and used by Google as meta keywords, but no more,
So, for Google, it doesn't have any access to these keywords anymore, only the content, links and their anchors,

For the best anchors practices, try to mix things up,
Include a wide variety of brand, naked, partial matches and a few exact matches for these specific keywords,
Don't overoptimize as it might get your website/page doomed sooner or later

Thank you for making that clear to me! I always mix when buying backlinks. The problem is that I tend to buy more quality backlinks (with high DR/DA) for my main keyword. So let's say it is 'pet supplies' (changing from wooden hangers as I saw it had a low keyword difficulty).



Ahrefs says I will need around 569 backlinks to rank. So next question is, should all the 569 backlinks have anchor text 'pet supplies', or I can use similar anchors to the keyword and they will still count toward those 569. Obviously I am not really trying to rank for a KW with KD of 87, my main keywords have between 30-45 KD, which according to ahrefs requires around 50-70 backlinks, so yeah.

To be honest the free version has been sufficient for my needs, but I thought of upgrading to Pro. Been using Yoast SEO before, it is similar.

Nah you need to have variations when it comes to your secondary keywords for your main keyword. ie- cheap wooden hangers, wooden hangers for kids cloths, high end wooden hangers. Keywords like that. Diversify,diversify,diversify.

Absolutely, diversify your anchor texts. Using your main keyphrase for all backlinks can raise red flags for search engines. Mix in related terms and generic anchors. Targeting 2-3 keyphrases per page is good, just keep them relevant. Remember, variety is key to avoid penalties.

you can use any phrase and always using the same phrase is not good as well.
