Link between articles

I believe that is very important to engage the users and make sure they stay on the site longer, and this certainly can be done with links between articles. Furthermore, I imagine that they also help Google a lot to index content better.

I have some questions on the topic: do you do everything by hand or do you use some plugin that perhaps allows you to add similar articles at the end?

Or do you do everything manually?
And if so, do you only do it on new content or do you go back to editing the old ones?
For example, I now have 30-40 articles, I could start inserting links between them, something I couldn't do a month ago when I had 2-3 not even on the same topic.

I'd go back to editing old ones and posting new ones as well.

Quality matters.
 
1. Use link whisper to build Inbound and outbound internal links.
2. Use sidebar and add latest articles, categories.
3. Use "you make also like links" after few paragraphs using a plugin.
4. Use related articles widget or plugin at the end of each article.
5. Use multiple widgets on home page, like latest posts, featured posts, popular posts, guides and reviews, the whole shabang.
6. Last but not the least use an exit popup.

There is such a thing as too much. This will tank your speed scores overall, so if you don't care about speed, then sure.

I use internal link juicer and import my target keywords from Rankmaths plugin to the targeted keywords.
You don't need all the shit above unless you want your site to be super heavy.
My post page has no sidebars and has a Next post / Previous post and then below that 3 articles which are side by side on desktop and stacked on mobile. I maintain a 28% bouncerate with this setup.
 
@nick76 This topic has been discussed numerous times here. If you search old threads you will find plenty of discussion already don on it.

To answer you again, this is what I do - For my small sites that has less than 1k-2k pages I do it with the help of Link Whisper plugin + Manually.

For the auto-blogging site that has over 10k pages, I use a plugin named Inline Related Posts that automatically inserts static links inside the articles to link them together.

New and old both. Make sure that no page in your blog is left orphaned / disconnected from rest of the site.

Of course you should start linking them together and you can easily do it manually. If you use Link Whisper, it will assist you with your manual work by helping find orphaned pages, and keyword suggestions.
 
I do it manually most of the time to insert the link into different anchors. In some of my sites, I use related post boxes that stand out inside the content.

As for using a plugin, I am going to try out the LInk Whisper right now.

I have used a plugin like this before. It was linking to pages with matching keywords, using the keywords as anchors. It can get annoying after a while because you start realizing internal links in irrelevant places. Plugin was rank math but I forgot the name of that feature.
 
On Page SEO (Internal Linking) should always be Done Manually for Better relevancy and enhance user experience. you can also add slidebar as well, if you wanna make your user stay for long time on the site. but don't automate the internal linking part it will definitely affect your rankings, site authority, page authority, and relevancy as well.
 
I always do it manually for my sites because i post few articles per month and doesnt requires much time.

Do you know any software similar to Link Whisper, but not on WordPress? Like you let it scan your website, and it creates an audit report with internal linking suggestions?

Nope, never heard something like that.
 
I do it manually and only interlink when it makes sense. if there is a benefit for the reader (i.e. if it helps them better grasp/expand the topic) I do it, otherwise I don't link. tested various interlinking methods both manual and auto on dozens of sites and never saw improved ranking from it
 
There are plugins for internal linking if you are using wordpress, We are using linksy.

I have static sites using GoHugo, which is why I am looking for some external tool that can scan the site, not a plugin.
