Hi everyone, I’m about to lose my mind over this issue.

In Google Ads, I had a problem where my campaigns weren’t spending the daily budget (Target CPA strategy). When I removed the Target CPA from all my search campaigns, they came back to life – they started spending the daily budget again, clicks returned, and so did conversions.

But now, without Target CPA, my cost per conversion has gone up a lot. So to start fixing this, I set a much higher Target CPA, giving some room for optimization. Everything was going great, fantastic actually, until today... I noticed most of my campaigns are now limited by search volume, and again, the daily budget is not being spent.

This time, I don’t think it’s because of the Target CPA, since it’s set pretty high to avoid that. The only obvious recommendation I get is to use broad match keywords, or to add/change my current keywords to broad.

I need help guys... Is that really the issue? Is the solution to switch most of my keywords to broad match? Or why am I stuck in this cycle? Please help!

It looks like you're experiencing a budget constraint issue, usually related to the type of keyword match. A few things to try are: use broad match (or modify broad match) to amplify traffic, but be careful to avoid irrelevant traffic; increase your bids to ensure more display opportunities in a competitive market; check the relevance of your keywords to make sure they're closely related to your products/services; and tweak your targeting settings, such as broadening the geo-location, device type, or demographic settings to increase leads.

Could you share a raport or a screenshot with the competitive metrics? (search impression share, search lost (all), relative ctr and search exact match IS .

You need to make a balance between keywords, keyword match type and bidding strategy. If you use Target CPA, better choose the keywords have big search volume or the board match type to get more ads display opportunities. Otherwise you would reach the search volume limits very soon.

You may see the cost per conversion go up in the beginning if you do so, remeber to filter unrelated keywords from your search terms so that machine learning can know which keywords you want.
