Liking pics vs Follow/unfollow

I am just wondering how you guys are doing with liking other peoples pics. Some people say that there has been no result with liking targeted user pics but others say they get some followback. What do you guys think?

Why not both

I get followers just by liking the most recent photos of popular hashtags in my niche. It may not be as good or as many when you do the follow/unfollow method, but you can tell that they followed you because they like your account and not just because you followed them first.
