Hi everyone,

I am just wondering if anyone has had any success with letterbox flyers?

I run an online service and don't really have a feel for what sort of conversion rate to expect from flyers. I would assume, since someone must hold the flyer in their hands, the conversion rate would be higher than simply displaying an ad on their screen. For those of you who have done something like this before, what were the results like?

Regards,
Peter

Depending on what you're promoting, yes they work. Target a demographic that still looks at snail mail.

Direct mail is akin to carpet bombing. It'll take a lot of mail to generate business. I think the average rate of return is somewhere between 2%-3%. Of that number, maybe 1/4 - 1/2 actually buy.

Hi Trolling4Dollars,

2% - 3% is what our advertising online is getting us now. We are a new VPN service. The idea was that if people can feel the ad ( by holding it ) the rate of return would be higher than people simply seeing an ad online. Flyers are also a lot more expensive than impressions online. So this would not be worth it?

Peter.

I'm not going to say it wouldn't be worth it. Few things I would consider...
  • Lead source: Do you have a targeted list of addresses to mail to? e.g., IT Professionals. If not, you can buy them, however they aren't cheap. How does that cost compare to the methods you're using to generate online leads?
  • Geographic Distribution: Is this a local or worldwide service? I'm assuming worldwide as it's VPN. If you were targeting a specific geo, you might get more bang for your buck just building name recognition on radio or TV.
  • Other Print Options: would it be more valuable / cost effective to simply place ads in relevant trade journals to build brand recognition & drive people to your online funnel?

Hi @Trolling4Dollars,

Thank you for the information. I am looking into who the best audience is for flyers now :)

Regards,
Peter.
