Hi,

Everyone including Howie keeps saying that these methods work for longtail keywords... this is the part i always kind of mess up.. I guess im doing it wrong or my research method sucks..

K it would be best if we take an example.

My niche is around computer memory and RAM.. how will i longtail that?

Just use the above tools to get lists of long tail related keywords based on your main niche. Next, do an indept competiton analysis for some of the long tail keywords to get low competitive onces.

You basically make a search with your keywords in G00gle Keywords tools, and verify the amount of pages that are ranked for that expression ("Keyword expression").

Keywords Search/Month #Pages ranked
ram 7,480,000 239,000,000
computer ram memory 40,500 43,600
computer memory upgrade 14,800 473,000
upgrading computer memory 880 3,490
computer memory buy 8,100 8,880

From there, you simply pick the best terms.
"computer memory buy" is very good, and "upgrading computer memory" is good.
"computer ram memory" can also be very good, but will be harder to rank well at the beginning of your SEO promotion.
The other 2 are out of your league for now.

Thx a lot, these do help, but they are not exactly long tail i think.... 3 words are normal keywords. 5 words and above may be long tail...i think

If you want to go after a low competitive keyword go for something like this:

*on google:
Keyword between "quotes"= between 1.000 - 100.000 results
Keyword with Allinanchor = between 1 - 2.500 results
Keyword with Allintitle = between 1 - 2.500 results

Also look at the competitors pages that are top10 in SERPS for your keyword:

- How many backlinks do they have?
- which anchor text do they got in there backlinks?
- Have they optimized there pages for your keyword? (title,description,image alt, bold, meta, h1, url etc)
- What is there Pagerank?
- What is there domain age?

Also check if the websites in the google results for your keyword are Main index-pages or sub-pages. If your find alot sub-pages (e.g www.niche.com/bla-bla-bla.html) in the top25 serps your competition is low aswell.

Always use "exact" searchvolume in google's keyword tool. (like 1000+ per month). Then check wordtracker if it matches up a bit.

for example we have the longtail keyword "discount computer memory"
~10.000 between quotes
~1,300 allintitle
~739 allinurl

Websites like Newegg.com are in the top serps for this keyword so the compeition is a bit to high i think. But just keep doing this till you find a longtail keyword that has great low competition/high search volume ratio.

And a little thing about long tail keywords...

"Computer" is the main keyword/Market
"Computer Memory" is a related keyword/Niche
"Discount computer memory" is a longtail keyword related to the niche
"Discount Kingston computer memory PC8600 DDR2" is a longtail targeted keyword

so for example you could make a webpage about "Discount computer memory" and in the content put really targeted stuff like "Kingston PC8600 etc etc" "Corsair blablabla DDR3".

Using the tool above are a good start. I use Nichebot and the paid version of wordtracker. But I also brainstorm my own list of keywords that sometimes pay off really good. Just put yourself in the place of someone search for RAM and computer memory to come up with your own list, sometimes the tool may have those phrases, sometimes not:

substitute "computer memory" for RAM in the phrases below also>

How to upgrade RAM
Where can I buy RAM
RAM Coupons
Where can I find RAM coupons
cheap computer memory
RAM upgrade guide
RAM upgrade instructions
help with upgrading RAM
what is the best RAM
upgrading RAM on a Dell computer (substitute DELL with different computers)

etc etc

Hope this helps. I always brainstorm my own list and add them to the ones that are generated. Sometimes you will find a gem that your competitors that might have missed.

I bought 40 articles.. they have 3-4 times keyword phrases in text..

Take a look at some competition examples :
graphic design schools - 23 millions
online graphic design program - 16 millions

So for conclusion I killed 300 bucks

Maybe you guys could throw some ideas, how could I fix situation to make some love from google?

Maybe I must make some really low competing keyword articles, and only then make some decent link building?

But why sometimeslongtails have so much search results...

Just I don't want to throw my money and work away.
