So I want to do a journey post, one where I actually get off my bum more than once.
So small bit about me.. I've been in the internet "making money" scene for a long time.
Much more lurking than participating, but have learned lots and it's stayed relevant in my
web development career. I've dipped my toes a lot over the years, without any real results.
Most definitely looking for civil criticism and advice from anyone.
I found a method in a post by meathead1234 and he deemed it seo-jacking. It's clear and easy-ish.
So decided to give it a go. My niche area is really broad, and could potentially cause this to fail.
But it will be an experience. My plan is to have many reviews about products I find good amounts of content for on google alerts.
Then go in and do the pr as meathead has mentioned.
Even if my broad test fails, i'll have more insight into creating this exact platform again for round 2.
I am a good programmer and I know my css/html/js. I can do basic image work as well if I find reason to. I don't plan to dish out any cash for anything concerning my skill sets unless time becomes too much of an issue and I have proven earnings.. haha
Here's my day so far:
Setup a droplet on digital ocean. Costing 0.007/h or $5 a month. Easy to scale up if site explodes.
Purchased domain. Cost $22.41
1 am - Server finally up with default wp install and domain pointing there.
2 am - Spent time browsing themes and plugins and installing some.
3:30 am - htaccess issues.... finally resolved. Giving apache process ownership of htaccess fixed this.
5 am - Wasted time whilst managing to get stuff done.
Found a nice plugin for wp related to amazon and set it up
Will use it and see what kind of hacking it needs.
5:45 am - now tinkering with themes, noting places I'll have to edit plugins/themes
6:45 - threw away the amazon api using plugin. Seems awesome, but isn't working.
Found another called "wp-product-review". Has some pro features I'd love to pick up one day. Nothing I can't really code myself if I got into it..
This one produces a nice rating, graph, pros, cons. Its nice. Some css tweaks will make it mine.
Currently confused as to how I'll mix my review and this little display widget.
Few design things to think about I guess. I'm not confident in my writing skills to carry a user through a long article to a little synopsis widget.

Goals Today:
Set up server & domain [1/1]
Set up wp & plugins [1/1]
5 reviews [1/5]
5 google alerts [1/5]
So I didn't meet my reviews goal just due to setup time and issues. I could of reviewed a bunch of products but I'm not worried since I'm not really sending traffic here as of yet. Its also 7 am and I should sleep
Need to think on how to re-design that widget to accommodate for a description. So I'll chill her and/or sleep in a bit. I did get a fair bit done I think.
Spending several hours documenting my progress as well as working.. its nice to see myself getting something done.
Money Stats:
Spent: $22.41 + ~ $0.045 in server time.
Earned: $0.00
Total: -$22.455
Long Term Goals:
If method works for me, develop wp tools to make gathering traffic and new reviews easier.
Make at least more than $5 a month (etc) so the project is self sufficient money-wise. Preferably profiting
