So I want to do a journey post, one where I actually get off my bum more than once.
So small bit about me.. I've been in the internet "making money" scene for a long time.
Much more lurking than participating, but have learned lots and it's stayed relevant in my
web development career. I've dipped my toes a lot over the years, without any real results.

Most definitely looking for civil criticism and advice from anyone.

I found a method in a post by meathead1234 and he deemed it seo-jacking. It's clear and easy-ish.
So decided to give it a go. My niche area is really broad, and could potentially cause this to fail.
But it will be an experience. My plan is to have many reviews about products I find good amounts of content for on google alerts.
Then go in and do the pr as meathead has mentioned.
Even if my broad test fails, i'll have more insight into creating this exact platform again for round 2. :p

I am a good programmer and I know my css/html/js. I can do basic image work as well if I find reason to. I don't plan to dish out any cash for anything concerning my skill sets unless time becomes too much of an issue and I have proven earnings.. haha

    Here's my day so far:

Setup a droplet on digital ocean. Costing 0.007/h or $5 a month. Easy to scale up if site explodes.
    Purchased domain. Cost $22.41

1 am - Server finally up with default wp install and domain pointing there.

2 am - Spent time browsing themes and plugins and installing some.

3:30 am - htaccess issues.... finally resolved. Giving apache process ownership of htaccess fixed this.

5 am - Wasted time whilst managing to get stuff done.
Found a nice plugin for wp related to amazon and set it up
Will use it and see what kind of hacking it needs.

5:45 am - now tinkering with themes, noting places I'll have to edit plugins/themes

6:45 - threw away the amazon api using plugin. Seems awesome, but isn't working.
Found another called "wp-product-review". Has some pro features I'd love to pick up one day. Nothing I can't really code myself if I got into it..
This one produces a nice rating, graph, pros, cons. Its nice. Some css tweaks will make it mine.
Currently confused as to how I'll mix my review and this little display widget.
Few design things to think about I guess. I'm not confident in my writing skills to carry a user through a long article to a little synopsis widget.

    Goals Today:
Set up server & domain [1/1]
Set up wp & plugins [1/1]
    5 reviews [1/5]
    5 google alerts [1/5]

So I didn't meet my reviews goal just due to setup time and issues. I could of reviewed a bunch of products but I'm not worried since I'm not really sending traffic here as of yet. Its also 7 am and I should sleep :p

Need to think on how to re-design that widget to accommodate for a description. So I'll chill her and/or sleep in a bit. I did get a fair bit done I think.
Spending several hours documenting my progress as well as working.. its nice to see myself getting something done.

    Money Stats:
    Spent: $22.41 + ~ $0.045 in server time.
    Earned: $0.00
    Total: -$22.455

    Long Term Goals:
If method works for me, develop wp tools to make gathering traffic and new reviews easier.
Make at least more than $5 a month (etc) so the project is self sufficient money-wise. Preferably profiting :D

    Hahaha :p

If I were to work straight off for another person, I'll do something related to programming.
In fair the $5 range, a coding task might take 10 minutes to an hour top's.

Part of the point of this journey is I will have a good wordpress platform I can later re purpose if this project does half decent.
Either way, I'm brushing up on wp and some linux and I will always value learning stuff :p

Well i got to say that here in bhw ive done coding jobs for $50 a pop several times the last year or so, so i would suggest to check out the hire a freelance section for coding jobs.

Once you have one job, make it the best you can and they will come back to you for more. Ive earned around $400 doing that in the last year or so. Pocket change but it took me like 20mins to get them done and i didnt need to promote anything as they continued to come back ;)

    Good luck!

I think your missing his point royserpa
there is only so much scaling up you can do as a coder,
Whereas he can set up WP sites that wil continue to make him a recurring income on autopilot

Oh I know that. I could also just go work a day job and be paid well lol. A lot of the potential jobs for things are things I don't have any experience toying with though haha.

I'm probably more likely to sell crap I make for my own projects currently.

I completely understand you though haha. In highschool, sold $5 bug/bot site patches and made 400 in about a week :D
My own little niche experience I guess. I was the only person trying to beat bots beyond standard "pay $xx monthly and stay bot free."

I've pm'd a couple people in the freelance section the last few days but had no replies. I stopped trying to get bids on freelancer/elance/guru etc. I don't like having to compete with the hoards of people in india when trying to pitch my skills at a price I'd be willing to work at. The only bid I was ever excepted for was scraping some government authority sites and was not paid. I prefer networking with people for that crap.

But for now I'm here, I have a project, and i'm going to keep working on it because I'm having fun hehe. Which is all that I REALLY care about at the end of the day.

I didn't miss his point at all. I was just telling him how we could make $400 while being a coder.

Of course I know sites get you money on autopilot, I was just telling him how to make a lot more than $5 in a month. ;)

Oh I know about the sections of the forums. I was here at least a year before I even signed up and here it is heading on to 2015.
Yes I'm broke right now, but I can still eat and sleep with internet. lol.
I started replying a few times and had some distractions going on and lost those words.

Yes, trickle funds are nice. Its also about developing skills and tools take that trickle to a flood, or at least a mean stream haha.
I realize my thread title sucks. I'm not 3rd world or a child haha. Actually for your reference I nearly published the title as, "Nocare Nosleep Noimagination". Took a look at my money and and my project, and said, "I'd be happy if this just doesn't cost me too much money over time"

I'm pretty simple. I want the experience, not just money.

Finished up template stuff for now. Overall site color and stuff is complete crap, but individual reviews are at a good start.
    Focusing on adding more reviews.

Have a few clicks on my affiliate links. Most likely me? No ordered items, but i've not directed any traffic yet still.
Working a bit slow... life getting in the way today and yesterday.

Got stuff done, but between that and a lack of sleep I didn't post :p

I'll knock out my reviews pretty quickly.

With regard to amazon and how google will see your page, are full affiliate links or the amzn.to links better? Does it even matter?
I'd think not, but i'm still curious.

    Goals:
Finish up content style for pages containing products [1/1]
    Fix borked function [1/1]
Moar reviews and alerts written [4/10]
