Is there any approximation for the number of words, for an article, for optimum SEO.

I mean: a 300words article or around 500words. Which is best, mainly if you target a long tail keyword(ex: grate tricks to get fat)?

i prefer it to be 450 to 500 words with some longtails related to the main keyword included..

No. It depends where it's destined for.
Mix it up a bit.
Personally I think around 300 is too short and smacks of mass production, - I go for 450-600, sometimes even a little longer for ez in e.

The debate over the length of articles is an ongoing one. You have some saying that 250 -300 words SEO articles often will do a better job, and will get higher CTRs. Personally, I've had better success with 400+ words articles. I find this length more ideal to say what you want to say plus presenting a high quality, informative piece.
