Hi,

I want to make money freelancing to feel at least a little bit productive, but i am looking for possible ways to learn/improve.

Writing:

English is not my mother-tongue, i am Dutch, what would u recommend me to improve on my English writing?
Also what would be the best option to make money writing?
Sites as Hub pages or Constant-Content?

Programming:

I would really love to learn this, i am motivated but i don't know where to start!
What language is recommended to start with?

Webdesign:

I am still learning Photoshop and Illustrator and i barely have any knowledge in HTML/CSS.

Do you have any other freelance skills to suggest?
I would like to be a little bit of a all-rounder.

I'm not a big fan of E books to learn something, instead i like to learn while doing.
But still feel free to recommend E books, i will still give it a shot and read it.

I would spend some time going thru the learn seo threads and learn everything you can about internet marketing. That is where the money is at as compared to writing and programming per se. If you learn basic marketing concepts and you are active here you will acquire slowly the other skills and knowledge that you need. Just remember that You don't have to know how to do something, you just need to know how to get it done. That is the biggest thing to learn.

hey there!

Start with Joomla and then you will learn a lot of other things like css and programming and design... thats how i started.. im sucesfull now :D

I have been reading over the past months about internet marketing, but i just can't find the hang of it.
I will have a really slow start making money in IM compared to freelancing since i don't have any start capital.
The point is i would love to do IM, but i like to learn & be productive in at least some kind of way without monetizing for example fake keygen's.

So you suggest starting with webdesign and i will get the experience in other programming languadges in the long run?

Have you considered project management?

Can you explain me what you mean with "Project Management"?

Thanks for replying, SoRelaxed

Hi, nice to know that you are interested in freelancing. First you need to choose a specific type of work that you want to learn. Fore example, php or vb.net or wordpress. Then you should concentrate learning that as much as you can. For learning youtube is your best friend. You can learn almost every coding language in youtube. Try to find video tutorials that comes up in the series, like PHP Tutorial 01-50 etc. Because those cover many things and come up as a sequence.

Hope these helps.

All the best.

The best thing to do is to start first with CSS/HTML, then PHP/JAVASCRIPT and some graphics. After that go with WordPress, not Joomla. There's a huge demand for WP themes so i can't see no reason not to be successful if ur skills are good. Try to learn in this order: CSS/HTML-PHP/JAVASCRIPT-GRAPHICS (average)-WORDPRESS. Good luck.

I think you haven't consider some other stuff...even if you have all the skills of programming you may not be making much ,you have to compete with those from India and Pakistan.... the time you have to spend....

Thanks for the replies guys!
I know there is a lot of competition from country's like India, but that wont stop me.
Once i get the hang of some freelance skills, programming/webdesign than i am going to focus on offline bus..
I want to complete the jobs and satisfy the client and ultimately be the best (or at least feel like it) in what i do.

So from the replies this would be the right order to learn, programming/webdesign?

1. HTML/CSS
2. PHP
3. Wordpress

Any other languages to add to the list?

WORDPRESS, this probably one of the easiest CMS and is extremely popular. Some HTML/CSS and javascript.
I agree that IM is harder than freelancing, but is way more profitable.

trying to learn stuff online can be difficult because there is so many distractions
my advice is to find a school that teaches the skills you need, for example html can easily be learned with the help of an instructor in less than a week

Thanks impossible, i didn't know that one yet!

TheMagicNumber, I don't know if i find Internet marketing hard, its more of a lack of motivation to do so, it takes quiet a while to see good results which might be worth it in the long-run but that's not the way for me to make money right now.
Maybe when i am making money with freelancing, than i might consider learning more about Internet marketing on the side.

Freelancing seems the most viable option for me right now, i am 18 and my girlfriend is 13 weeks pregnant and its hard to get a job in the Netherlands especially without education.
I wanna go to school this year to learn IT but in the meantime i am going to try to make some money online.
So i really appreciate your reply's guys.

Going to be a dad requires a lot of dedication & responsibility, all i can do is put all my focus on learning & applying everything to get at least some kind of income!

Child at 18-19, i don't want to offend you or anything, but ABORTION IS THE ONLY OPTION.
The child will consume too much time and money, you are just starting your professional career and the baby will literally shit on everything.
I have a lot of friends that did this mistake, they are not motivated, don't want to learn new things and the only thing they want to do is working their day job(s) to sustain the family. And believe me or not you will be no exception.

"Abortion the only option", are you out of your mind!? The topic is about "Learning skills to be a freelancer" and you suggest ABORTION? :smashfrea
