Learning Python programming . need help in creating bots.

Hi,
I have started to learn python programming and have reached exercise 42 in learn python the hard way.
But, I still cant understand how to do simple tasks like finding the page ranks of a list of domains, finding the number of links they have, etc, etc.

I think I dont understand the workflow for these tools.
I mean, If I manually had to find out the page rank of a site I would go to some page rank checker site and
find it out, but when I want a bot to do it, I dont think I should program the bot to go the page rank checker site and
find the page rank there.
I want to find out the process that the page rank checker site is using so I can create my bot.
similarly for other bots for keyword research or similar IM related stuff.

would love to get your ideas and suggestions.

I did search in google but maybe I didnt know what to search for.
What I want to do is to learn what's going on behind the scenes of
tools which do keyword research and which find longtail keywords.
I want to know the flowchart for the process and then apply it myself.
what keywords should I search for to find the flowcharts for this type of process?
Maybe you could tell me what I need to learn to know about all this.
It would be really helpful.

a search using this is giving much better results.
And I was not saying I wanted to get the code for all the things I asked for.
I only wanted a brief overview about how they do things.
for example do they use some api stuff, or scraping or web request or what?
I have no idea about the above things I mentioned and if you say that I need to learn
about it, then I will go ahead and learn about it.
I just dont know what to read/study to understand or do that kind of stuff.
