You should become a programmer if you love it or have a passion to build things, not to make money. And programming is a future job for sure, you just need to adapt to different languages/programs and pays very well. If you are a beginner is hard to find jobs/projects and that's why you should build your own projects in the spare time.

What if you become passionate about data science but can't do shit with it due to having not enough data?
Haha, you will have to work in a 9-5 and struggle to live.
But try learning with money in mind. You will get much better idea of what you really need.
Passionate people will be guided by their passion and fail to learn one single framework.
They will just pick everything that is around because the are just passionate and nothing more.

- IT allows you to upgrade or improve the software you buy or get
- Could possibly retire younger if you do things right

- Can be stressful
- Take a lot of work
- Have a horrible boss
- Not much time for fun sometimes for example Videogames creators fall into this group often
- You may find people always want to pay you tiny money
- Maybe get customers from hell during jobs or work
- work yourself to death in some cases
- Believe we are all geeks so you maybe get looked down by people if you say you are programmer

I can't remember it's name but it's kind of old programming language but since only like 50 people in the world can work it you get a more less guaranteed payment for anything doing it at least $300,000 I think it's the software the American government use for some things but for you to learn it would be kind of hard since not a lot of training or information exists about it I think it was 1980's it was first created

Passionate? Take the example of blogging, I guess almost all those bloggers are just blogging for money. You can correct me if I'm wrong. No doubt, everyone is chasing money.

There are people who will do something because they love it and some that want money. The best way is to combine those two.
Kind of the way of the programmer you kind of have the two extremes the people who get paid big money and do small to medium work then the next people who work crazy and get paid tiny money for it.
