I'm looking to learn about hardware and I would like to know if this course on https://www.coursera.org/learn/embedded-software-hardware is practical.

my suggestion is to learn some verylog / assembly

Looks too advanced. If you are new to this, start with a simpler one like 8085/8086 micro-processor. ARM instruction set should be far more complicated, and you will be lost pretty soon.

Yes, this one is best for learning hardware.

edx(dot)org also has some free courses for learning hardware and embedded systems. Back in the day I took the course from the University of Austin and it was very practical.

You can do the lab work using a simulator in case you don't have access to buy the physical components.
