For those doing lead gen, do you use a call management service like call rail (for example) to track leads for clients? If so, is it a must? What do you use?

It is a must if you want to know if you're getting paid correctly. I use the old self-hosted version of Analytic Call Tracking. It still works great. That said it hasn't been updated in a very long time and I should probably look for something new.

That makes sense!
Would it be possible to collect email leads and send it to your clients instead? What would be the pros and cons of tracking calls vs emails?

You can track emails too. The difference between a call and email is money. Call = you can charge more

Thanks!

How do call leads work?
When a lead calls the number from a landing page, does the tracked number automatically forward the lead to your business client, then your business client attempts to close the deal?
Whereas an email lead, I'll need to forward the email leads to the business client, they would need to do a warm sales call/e-mail to close the deal?
Sorry, I'm completely new to this, just trying to understand the process, so I can understand how to get this off the ground.

Lead calls phone number on landing page, website, ad, etc... the call is automatically forwarded to your client, with no need for your intervention. Many times it also records the calls so you can verify if a lead is good or not. They attempt to close the deal. You're sending them a lead from someone looking to do business with them since your landing page is about their business.

Some call tracking programs have even more advanced features like forwarding to multiple clients or employees of your client since many call tracking programs have round robin systems and systems if one doesn't answer it moves onto the next number.

With email sometimes you'll get a good return email, sometimes typos, sometimes no phone number, sometimes tire kickers... There can be tire kickers on phone calls also but they're reaching out and you have time to tell them the value you offer in that phone call immediately. With an email you have to email back if there is no phone number. There may be a long back and forth, the client may never respond back, your email gets caught in spam....

There is more value in a phone call. If you can charge them for both, even better.

An example of pricing would be a phone call lead is worth $60 an email lead is worth $15. This varies by niche but usually there is a big price differential.

Awesome! Thanks!
Are there any call tracking services that you recommend? Looking for a service that is budget-friendly since I am just starting out.

Not at the moment. The one I'm using now I've used for years, before they started monthly fees. It uses Twilio for phone numbers. I've tried out Kallzu tracking and it was good but I'm not sure if they offer it for non-members so that can be expensive. CallRail has always been solid, just more expensive for phone numbers.

I was actually interested in seeing recommendations also.

Great!
Do you think lead generation is still doable in 2020 and forward?
