My new gripe for the month haha.

For the life of me, I don't understand why buyers are so lazy. They are given a tracking number so that they can follow their shipment and see where it's at and when it's going to arrive to them.

I'd say most buyers follow their own shipments but it seems like a good portion of them don't.

I get these kinds of messages a lot. A buyer orders something from me and it's only supposed to take about 2-4 days to arrive to them. For some reason they wait 30 days and then finally message me telling me they never got their order and want a refund because it's taking too long.

When I go and check their tracking information, I see that it was already delivered to them 4 days after they ordered it. I tell them to double check (a bunch of procedures) and then they say oh a neighbor had it or it was at the post office waiting there etc.

In my head I'm thinking.....geezuz you lazy bum! If you just track and check your own shipments, you wouldn't have to wait so long and then get all angry at the seller for doing their job.

Why the heck does anyone even wait 30 or 60 days after they ordered it and supposed to arrive in just a few days? Why would they wait that long and think not to check their tracking information? Dang....i hate buyers like that! haha...

Now of course you could say that as a seller, I should follow up on every single sale and message the buyers and ask them if they received their orders well etc....but I don't do that because I don't think it's necessary. For a small timer, that makes small profits, you'd have to turn this into a full-time job to constantly monitor everyone's orders for them. I do check now and again on some orders just to see if tracking shows delivered but I don't always do this. It just makes sense that a buyer should take care of their own order and if they have a problem then contact the seller. Don't ignore your tracking number and then even wait 30-60 days after it was supposed to arrive and then get angry at the seller cuz you didn't get your order.

You should just tap into the API of those shippers and send regular tracking updates

- Will help you to get fewer questions
- Paper trail, and if anything gets stuck you will know earlier and can proactively email any buyers.

Other than that, if what you sell is not crucial they may have forgotten during these times then get the CC bill and realize they did not get any package...Anyway, do the above and will be smoother sailing for you.

This sounds really good, but sorry, I didn't understand what is API? I don't know how to do this and if you could enlighten me, maybe I could try it and it may solve this problem for good!

So you either need a developer (an API is basically a connection for your website to ask for information from another website in a structured way), or if you say use woocommerce for your sales there are likely plugins that do the tracking part for you

I would say that 8 times out of 10 they actually got the package and are claiming they didn't in hopes that you will just automatically refund them.

In the last 2 months out of less than 100 sales I have had 3 item not received cases opened when the tracking clearly shows the item was delivered. Once I upload the tracking number and state that the item was delivered in/at mailbox or front door/porch on 4/10/2020 at 9:53 AM I never heard a peep from them again.

A 4th buyer actually escalated the claim and Ebay did refund him out of their pocket and closed the case in my favor. He was a new member so they had to kiss his ass a little so he would stick around.

I just add them to my blocked buyers list and move on.

Yes, I've had my fair share of those and when you show them the tracking information confirms delivered, they don't reply back anymore lol.
But most of them are honest and really didn't get it for some reason....mail theft, neighbor held it, family member took it and forgot to tell recipient, front desk/concierge has it but didn't notify recipient, the package was hidden by delivery man such as but around the house/side, behind bush, under porch etc to keep it from being seen and stolen, the item was delivered but left at post office waiting to be picked up but nobody called the recipient, etc. There are so many possibilities and if the buyers would only track their packages, it would eliminate 90% of the problems.

Maybe it's just me but everytime I order something online, I'm always checking my tracking information and making sure I know when it's about to arrive to me...I have it bookmarked or on notification.

Thanks! I guess I would have to learn that segment of the business. I've never gotten into making my own website/store using shopify or wordpress woocommerce(?) so that's something I'd have to learn if I'm motivated enough to try opening my own store (still dropshipping though).

I've had this happen once, buyer tried to get a $1500 refund on a delivered item. A month of going back and forth, the buyer didn't get a refund. Paypal and Ebay banned the buyer's account, as they found the buyer has done this before.

I don’t think they’re lazy but stupid. Bad SE and try to get the money back.

Wow I wish I would have gotten your customers lol Mine start to complain within a day or two already. Are your customers US-based?

What he said! OP you need to automate things like that to the highest extend possible. There are APIs, plugins and ready made scripts for almost everything in that regard.

I would say that 8 times out of 10 they actually got the package and are claiming they didn't in hopes that you will just automatically refund them.

I wasn't even aware of that...they might indeed be doing this on purpose in the hopes of just screwing the seller over and getting things for free. Just insane. And you as a seller have to deal with that..Do people actually get away with that kind of stuff?!

Lazy buyers are why you can dropship from Ebay to Amazon, or Amazon to Ebay, or Aliexpress to Amazon or Shopify or literally anything.

Thank them they are lazy. The moment they come out of their comfort zone and start exploring before using their card, half of all dropshippers will start crying.

I would say about 60% of my customers are US based.
