Launching a new CO, SEO tips needed

So I'm launching a new web-application/web start-up, it's a double-sided market place and I've successfully on-boarded the supply-side. However, now to create value for the supply-side I need to grow my user-base. I'd like to start off by using SEO, and content marketing because they are more cost-effective.

Specifically, I'm looking for SEO tactics to help me grow my user-base and rank higher in Google. I know the key is to generate quality content and build as many links to the content as possible, however, if you can share any actual tactics on how to build more backlinks that would be awesome! And hopefully we can work together when I start to get more traction!

Your strategy is really dependant on the product. You are in black hat seo and you need to understand if your business is legit, you might end up penalizing yourself in the long run. Social media might be better for you.

Also if you have not gripped seo in five years there is a good chance you won't.

Go for guest posts on related sites but a different way of laying your content out. Plus, press release links as well as other authority links could help too.

If you are running a web start-up, here are some things to consider before you plan how to get more sales:

1. What keyword are you going to rank for? I hope its not something like "web design agency" or "best web design agency". Its very difficult to rank for such high competition keywords in short-term. What you may want to consider is target "web design agency in west London" or "web design agency for restaurant". You see by targeting a narrow customer base, you can get rid of 90% of larger competition. Now, these are just examples and in reality, even such long tail keywords could be very competitive in most cases.

2. Why are you choosing SEO as your marketing strategy? Just so you know, many companies are going after other online strategies including social media, content marketing, PPC, PPV and so on. Considering the nature of your business, I don't expect organic traffic to bring you any revenue. You really want to focus on proactively reaching out to businesses rather than investing in SEO for customers to find you through Google. This could be done through outbound calls, email pitches etc.

Just letting you know as I've been in your shoes before and have some idea on what works and what doesn't work.

SEO is just one of the marketing channels that I'm exploring - the reason why I'm looking into it first is because as I mentioned it's one of the free channels. Another free channel is content marketing, and reaching out to PR companies which is sort of tied into SEO. Once I build up these channels then I'm interested in working on paid channels such as display ad's, social media ad's etc...

Just looking for some advice/tactics on SEO, but it seems like it really is just putting your head down and working on creating quality content, that gets shared right?

Sure SEO is free but search traffic doesn't work very well for web development companies.
Buyers are still traditional and they take time to get quotes from multiple agencies, compare portfolio, contract and so on. So its not like someone searches for web design and fills out the order form in 2 mins like buying a t-shirt.

Sure, SEO could give your company all the more visibility and credibility and you are doing the right thing by focusing on multiple marketing channels. If you would like to get started with SEO, you can start off with getting listed in business directories, some PR promotion and may be get some social signals - fb likes, tweets etc.

You might want to avoid Blackhat SEO if you are building a real business. In this case, I'd suggest to learn strategies from Brian at backlinko.com. That guy has got some good techniques and tutorials to bag some quality links from authority sites. Of course, work is involved but rewards are equally rewarding too.

Get as many google plus links as you can then index those. Add on couple of diversified fiverrs. 1 or 2 PR submissions. 1 or 2 video submission 1 or 2 link pyramids. Add an affiliate program.
