    Hello everyone,

After spending several weeks learning WordPress and its associated themes and plugins I launched a new website. This will be my first time attempting to market any of my sites and at this moment I am extremely overwhelmed.

The site is a satire website niche'd to my local city. I have several amazing writers under me, including members from a pseudo-famous band to a published author. We have slow but steady unique content. None of it is farmed and I'm pleased to say that. Not that I would know how to farm anyways!

Anyways, while I have been reading around the forums, I am really at a loss for where to start getting viewers/likes/followers.

    So far...

I have a twitter page set up with a total of 4 followers (never used twitter before)

I have a Facebook page with only 100 likes (after inviting all my friends from my various Facebook accounts (a collection of thousands of friends)

Several WordPress plugins. (Including all in one SEO)

    Google Adsense

I guess what I need is some advice on where to start and what to do. I have been reading alot on the forums, but I'm not really finding the information I am looking for. Maybe some recommended reading would help as well. I know nothing about keywords, SEO or marketing in general.

My first goal, and I am probably shooting under the table with this one is only 15-30 dollars a day. More would be nice, but that is my initial goal and at this point it's feeling like it will be hard to even get to that point.

Anyone who has any help to offer can either get 1 free hug from me or a Thanks.

Edit: I am not going to buy anything from anyone offering to add me 1000 followers for a certain amount of money, so don't waste your time. I need actual help and advice. Would possibly pay for a mentor, but at the moment even that is not viable.

Keep posting original content, the more the better.
If you have no money, but have time, sign up to some article directories and post articles to them with your site linked in the resource box for some basic backlinks.
If you have money, invest in Scrapebox or AMR or both and use them to build automatically.

Well son, first off read the stickies here on the forums and at WF and DP for a basic understanding of SEO. Read all the newbies start here and all that SEO stuff. I'll tell you off the bat, if you want to be whitehat and do it the old fashioned way it's gonna be a long haul unless you get lucky or you offer something the internet doesn't have.

Basic forumla is Make Content, Apply SEO, Backlink, let google find you and rank you. If you did your job right you'll get organic traffic. Or you can write something substantial or interesting or viral, publish it on a social network and let it spread around for the traffic. It's not easy but it is rewarding once you get there.

Now you said local. Do the following, print out some papers (8x10's) and write a brief advertisement about your business and how you make fun of local politicians or whatever. Go to small business owners (look at local food shops, university billboards, bookshops, anything that is local and not owned by a large corp. Like don't try a 7-11 but maybe Franks Good Gas) ask for the owner and if you could post your ad on their window/bill board. If your nice, trust me on this, they will let you put it up. If you want say it's only gonna be up for a week. They will forget about it and it'll stay until it's knocked over and you get some more time with it.

Connect with local owners and influential peeps. Does your city have a twitter account? If so tweet with them about stories and hope that they pick them up. I've done all this for my local sites and traffic boomed within a few days, literally. Good luck on your adventure. Ask if you want more info/clarification. It's nice to see a thread with more than 7 words in it for once.

One of the cool things about what your describing, if you've got good writers and unique satire content, is I can think of a ton of ways you can monetize it apart from just the normal display ads etc, once you start getting local traffic and beyond.

As far as what to Tweet about and whatnot initially, usually what I do when I can't think of what write is just write about what I'm doing, whats going to be coming to a site, etc. I do that a lot with the initial "footprint"/ring of Web 2.0s that I set up for my sites.

Once you get rolling, what about calling up some local radio stations and see if they'll have you on during some good drive time...if you've got good material and its funny, you never know...

Emmett - Like I mentioned, it's slow - but good. I haven't had time to write with all the other work I have been doing on it, but I hope to get a bunch of new writers soon through traffic (they will see the jobs page) I should be able to afford Scrapebox and AMR in a few weeks. I don't know anything about them, but I will check them out if they are worth it. What are article directories?

Berne - Thanks Dad! :) I'll check out those stickies. I have no problem wearing the black hat, that's why I'm here ;) Not sure what Back linking is, but I guess that's the next thing I have to Google. Understanding it might be another issue. Definatley some good advice for hands on advertising, will definatley check that out. The city itself does not have a twitter page, but I've recently downloaded Tweet Attacks Free and have been following people who have followed local people and businesses. Also just made a Facebook ad CPC targeting local people

Darkmonk - As far as those tons of ways to monetize, please share!

My tweets are actually a mix from funny status updates webpage and stuff me and the writers write. Usually 1 tweet a day doing this. Will reply to someone if i got something funny to say..etc. It's funny you mentioned local radio stations. I used to be on the radio. Let's just say radio is extremely political and we didn't part ways on good terms. ;) But who know!

Thanks for the helpful comments guys, if anything else comes to mind I'd love to hear it.

Checked out Scrapebox, seems like a great tool, but I don't have a "buffer" site or even know what that is or how to make one, and I'm not about to get my website url banned (which I have read happens alot) Also have no money for private proxies.

Checked out AMR - Very confusing, been reading about it for hours - still don't get it. Every thread I can find on this seems to be people who are spinning other peoples content. I don't see anyone using this who has their own unique articles, so finding advice on how to use it for such things is proving to be a little hard.

I'm way too newbie for those things at this moment. Any advice I seem to be finding on those programs seems to be directed towards people who know what the eff they are doing in the first place. Ground zero over here. Pulling my hair out.

Also seems Tweet Attacks isn't doing me any good, after adding about 100 people yesterday, I had about 18 followers this morning, checked back this afternoon and have a grand total of 6. If that doesn't go up, I will have around 80+ people to remove and I'm sure that won't look good.

Bought some Facebook advertising, suggested bid was 0.40 cents PPC, tried at 0.10, nothing is happening, will move it to 0.15 or 0.20 and see if that makes a difference.

Will post updates if anything changes. Thanks again.
