Large E-commerce Site Advice

Hi,

I have a 45,000 page e-commerce site. It is 8 years old and is updated daily. We lost a shed load of traffic in the summer and haven't managed to get it back. I am banging my head against a wall.

Does anyone have any advice for large e-commerce sites?

Had you built up an email list of past buying customers?

What sort of marketing had you done for this site?

How many products are you selling from the site are they download-able or real products?

and why so many pages?
