Could you please recommend few good laptops ranging under 500$ since i am not a tech friendly guy. Need to buy a new one for myself.

Looking for a 17 Inch screen and i5 or more preferably.

Thanks

http://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/hp-pavilion-17t-laptop-m7h90av-1 if you need the screen. (Add the i5 processor later). Graphics card isn't going to be for gaming/video editing but will do everything else fine.

You'll be lucky to find something brand new for that budget/spec, but as above said: Check eBay and then specify your needs in the sidebar and see what comes up. You can always post some links here and get opinions.

Make sure it's a Skylake i5 cpu, at least 8 gigs of ram and I strongly advise you to add a 240 gig SSD (preferably Samsung EVO).

Are you sure you want a 17inch laptop the screen resolution for that price is going to limit you to 1600*900 instead of 1920*1080 which is a 30% decrease in screen area.

Perfect timing! I need a new laptop for an upcoming business trip in July.

Hey @L33T, I thought I would bump this thread in case you were still looking for a laptop.

If you go on eBay or Amazon, you can find a Dell Latitude E6510 for under $300 (most of them are $200-$250). I recently purchased one and here are the specifications:

  • Intel Quad Core i7 720m @ 1.60 GHZ
  • 8GBs of DDR3 Memory
  • 320GB Hard Drive
  • 15.6" screen 1920x1080 Resolution
The screen is a bit smaller than what you were looking for, but something to note is the 1920x1080 resolution; most laptops have that 1366 x 768 resolution, even the 17 inch+ ones.

If the CPU speed is a problem for you, these laptops are apparently a lot more modular than other laptops, and other owners (from what I read and watched) have no problem switching out the CPU for a better one.

The one I purchased is identical to the laptop used in this graphics test video. You can tell the laptop is older, but I can tell you right now that it's signifcantly better than my other 3 laptops (but not my desktop; it's not even close).
